I didn't judge the value of diversity, schools do with image and dollars. Why do you think pics are photo-shopped to add more minorities? It's benefits the school monetarily. Just like athletes and legacy kids bring in more money. You can't change that you were born too short for basketball, or to a parent who went to a different school. It's the same thing.

They are not disadvantaged because of their race. Believe it or not, but black people are just as capable as everyone else.

They are disadvantaged because the cycle of poverty that they have been in for many generations. A problem shared by members of EVERY race.

Society's past actions which placed many minorities in worse situations than White individuals is also immoral. I think I saw you say admissions should be based more on financial reasons, but people's socio-economic status is often tied to race so I don't see the huge deal. Also you don't want a whole school of White individuals would you? Cultural and racial diversity is shown to be very positive for educational growth...

There won't be a school for anyone if they can't afford to keep the lights on, or hire good teachers. They give "extra points" for reasons that benefit more people than the kid who can just go to a different school.

Exactly. I agree that the difference is negligible.

The point is that our goal SHOULD be a colorblind society. So if we can accomplish roughly the same goals without using race as a factor it is preferable.

Very few schools rely on alumi or athletics to survive. The vast majority of schools take a loss on their athletic programs.

Society as a whole would be better if college sports were done away with.

Lol the person wasn't impying Black people are disadvantage due to their race. The person is saying what you're saying, many minorties are disadvantaged because of Society's past actions. I am not disagreeing with this statement, but those same groups would also benefit more from need-based admissions and aid. So I don't see the problem.

No, I agree with it, it's just that it's not the reality we live with in the US. Affirmative action wouldn't have to exist if everyone was provided with a college education.

As things stand, affirmative action is necessary. I'm sorry that for once the system doesn't have the white man's benefit in mind.

Your statement on Alumni is based on the false presumptions that without legacy admissions that money would go away.

...and it is a FACT that most schools LOSE money on athletics. Look it up.
