I know you’re working on your new album. Do you wanna talk about it and what influenced you this time around?
Sure. It’s called Cymatika Vol. 1 and the sound is influenced by new wave which I touched on before on another album called Because You Love It came out in 2007. So, I kinda went with that and took it a step further. It’s a mix of new wave, acid house, trance –those are the foundations of the sound. It’s not an R&B, hip-hop, soul album.
This album is very different. Why did you change it up?
It’s what I felt. Everytime I create anything, I just go with it. I always look at being a vessel for sound. I always incorporated different elements into things. The Because I Love It album was like hip-hop, soul, funk—blended with new wave. A lot of people thought it was weird because it was before people were going back to the 80s stuff, but now you have new wave, electronic rap songs. You can basically mix up anything, but that’s where I was and what I was feeling. And the content is about where we are as human beings and remembering our spiritual nature and the content speaks a lot to that. It’s a few songs on there about relationships, but it’s all about empowerment, as a woman, but claiming that power as a human being. It’s very different from my last album.
When should we expect this album to come out?
The new single will come in the next couple months and the album will come out late spring.
