Britney, aside from however relevant she is today, was a huge player in the making of the modern popstar. She was that character in between the Madonna and the Gaga in my head, but it's not like that is any small part to play. She brought teenage sexuality into the game and rose to prominence in a climate that favored boybands, not female solo artists. Now, look where we are ten years later: female solo artists REIGN over the industry like no other. On the other hand, while most people still remember who she is and she has produced moderate hits in the past year, she's lost a lot of her power and has left the public eye.
Beyonce made the transition from successful group to solo artists in a way that even JT must envy. She's critically respected, has produced some of the biggest and most memorable hits in the United States of the past 10 years, and has sold boatloads. She's clearly still a powerful force in terms of respect and album sales, even when she produces a slew of weak singles. Beyond that, I feel like Beyonce, for many years now, has been known as THE female celebrity businesswoman (though I think Gaga has quickly come up to par with her and probably even surpassed her in this department). The fact is, Beyonce doesn't even seem to have to have hits or even make music to remain relevant anymore.

Not a single lie was told.

Basically. Her relevancy outside of music into other fields is enough for her to win this poll.

Britney & Beyoncé are just about equal on all fronts except sales- which go to Britney, & awards/acclaim- which Beyoncé owns.
Britney is more frontloaded, the majority of her career accomplishments being in the span of 1999-2003. Her impact seems more apparent because of all the accomplishments that were contained within that timeframe. Because of this, she has a bigger immediate stanbase but over time her casual fanbase has dwindiled and she's lost her grasp over pop music- allowing the katys, rihs, k$ etc to take over when they would've otherwise been behind her if they appeared on the scene at the same time she did.
Beyonce has accomplishments spread over time and she doesn't fully embrace living her life in front of the tabloids so people underestimate her impact and what she's accomplished. If anyone needs anymore confirmation that Beyoncé has made an impact, plz refer to the 2011 VMAs where the MTV-appointed "Queen Of The VMAs" was made to read a teleprompter about how great & almighty Beyoncé is during the Queen Of The VMAs very own "tribute." Beyoncé gains new stans and fans and a whole new level of respect with every new album, slowly gaining traction. Her impactful songs are spread over each album. she boasts songs like Crrazy In Love from DIL, Irreplaceable from B'Day & Single Ladies from IASF. Britney seems to have no songs that permeate pop culture and appeal to people outside of its core demographic post-Slave, although she does have songs like Toxic, Everytime, & Gimme More which are iconic in the pop world.
It can be argued that Britney has bigger impact based off of how many people Yahoo! Search her in any given year compared to Beyoncé, but it can also be argued that Beyoncé has better longevity as Britney continues to lose steam.

Come on bitch punch them.
I really don't see what's to debate.
Sales = Britney
Awards/Critical Acclaim = Beyoncé
Respect = Beyoncé
Impact = Both
Although speaking a bit more on impact you would figure that Britney would be the one all the new and up coming artists name drop as one of their biggest inspirations. You would figure that legends and highly respected artists would also be practically stanning for her. You would figure more artists are trying to become the next "Britney", but they aren't. No one is raving or gushing over anything she's done in the past few years either. All of this is true for Beyoncé though. They claim Britney made more impact yet doesn't even get name dropped half as much as Beyoncé.

Beyoncé might be more talented or what you want, but Spears had a more impressive career even without the Illuminati's support.

Britney's still outsold her though.
With destiny's child sales included beyonce's sold 60 million albums, and britney's sold 80 million albums. (in a shorter period)

Lol . I knew it's gonna bring up some heat (that's the case with any other comparison on ATRL, hence 99% of the poll section) but that shouldn't stop me from asking what I was truly wondering about.

YES. Beyonce is the FAR, FAR better business woman. we're not just talking about music here, it's overall career.

But I see Beyonce staying around for a while.

Anyway... here are my half-assed thoughts
Sales/ NUMBERS: I'd give Britney a 9 and Beyonce 8. Britney's career sales is just so epic, you will be hardly pressed to find any "all-time" list that she isn't present on. And Beyonce is the jack-of-all trades. Successful movies, a great image to accomodate endorsements and very good album/single sales.
Impact: Britney
Respect: Beyonce
Longevity: I find it more impressive that Britney has survived the major slumps she faced 2005-2007 and came back strong.

Right?
The vma performance was the ONLY promotion done for the album, and with all the bad press she was getting at the time, i cant at 3 million being a flop album.

This. If Britney did not had a breakdown, she wouldn't have lost a lot of fans from ITZ era. It was a turning point in her life that could've ended the biggest female artist of the last decade's career.

I think total career (as the lead of Destiny's Child as well) records wise Beyonce has out sold her though. I don't really know tbh. Also, numbers also means money and I think Beyonce has a bigger net worth since we're judging total career wise. Hence, why I put tie. And she makes more from endorsements...Etc

I think Britney would've sold a lot more albums if Jive didn't completely ****ed up.
Jive released Britney's album after another major artist(Chris Brown) in their roster which was a mystery before considering it should all be spread out to keep their income keep on coming. Promotion was minimum and Britney opted to promote after the album was released.
And then we heard Jive got done and out and all of their rosters thrown either to Epic or RCA.

Britney's success mainly lie in Soundscan numbers from 1999.
