You also misinterpret the real source of Lambert’s jealousy: she isn’t concerned with the physical details of the other woman (Scan the original for a description of his girlfriend’s features: there are none listed for ANY of the parties involved.), and she’s not really jealous at all. It’s more like pity, as I see it. The other girl is submissive and not very interesting, while Miranda can still put up for herself. Miranda sees the other two as settling, not the other way around (“Desperation showed its truth”).

Not what I was looking for in a sequel this week, but mainly due to a misreading of the original’s style and plot.

I understand the plot of the original song, I just wrote the sequel as a different story but in the sense that she's back in almost the same position as before, hence the 'I've been here a million times' line. Different guy and different woman.

Cool song, first of all.

This definitely works with how complementary this piece’s tone and style is to your original source. The premise for your sequel is also believable. I do wish you would’ve picked a song with its own lose plotlines rather than conjure your own “what-if” scenario, but it does still work as a sequel which clearly is a consequence of the events of the original. Good choice in repurposing the wolf lady character here, as that’s by far the most interesting visual of both the original and your sequel. You did a nice job with switching up your style, and I hope you can show us some more sides to your writing in the future, as you did this week.

I'm glad you noticed that this isn't in my usual style. I switched things up a lot and was really self conscious after writing my song since it's so different from what I usually do and I'm glad it's being received well.

I didn't foresee so many judges having a problem with my song being structurally similar to the original. I guess I took sequel very literally, similar format and whatnot. Oh well.

The lines about the VA man rub me this way the most.

Not to be the annoying girl who always explains her songs, but I carried over that ("I still can't see my V.A. man") because of the veterans affairs administration mess in recent years where soldiers suffering from PTSD and depression couldn't get in to see their representatives for months at a time. Tried to make this sequel the vet from the original but older and more cynical, and he's shut out by the system when he tries to seek help. Thanks for the feedback!

Even though I'm no longer in the competition per se, i've been periodically working on my song a little. It was a continuation of Frank Ocean's Thinking 'Bout You titled "forever" (remember the extra-ness that is me, I was going to insist the quotations stay)

i'm going to continue to build my tracklist for that album at a slow rate

Well, I do agree that my song choice wasn't all that great, but I don't see myself being able to write a sequel to a classic song that matches the quality lyrically, and I figured that'd be a worse move than taking a lyrically plain song and expanding on it.

Maybe I figured wrong, I don't know, but this is how you learn I suppose.

I am also sad nobody mentioned how I opened my song with a reference to the end of Moonlight and ended it with a reference to how it began. I thought it was a cute touch.
