DMN made nice infographic about major artist (+songwriter) revenue from streaming per every $1 revenue.
So basically 1m streams =
- $2.2k on Apple Music (paid)
- $1.1k on Spotify (paid)
- $248 on Spotify (free)
- $2.2 on YouTube (yeah, $2.2, not $2.2k)
Those calculation is correct for US territory only. In Europe streaming share looks different.

As an artist - yeah. YouTube is music industry's biggest problem right now. It's called 'Value gap' or 'Transfer of value'. Youtube pays rightholders only 55% share of income when Spotify 55% for labels and 10.5 - 12.5% for publishers. Also Spotify has something called 'Minimum Revenue Guarantees' so actually service pays ~84% of its revenue.
Next problem is artists recording deals. Labels pay 16% of wholesale revenue. It's ok for CD and Vinyls because wholesale price includes manufacturing and distribution costs. Manufacturing costs for streaming?

MIDiA calculated that effective rate per stream is ~$0.0010. It's different for different territories and artists. Major artists can get more expensive ads.
