T(ea)bh. I did read some people leaving, but the whole the arena was 50% full is over exaggeration, and often comes from people who are halfway across the globe from the show who saw more than 3 people post it online and then run with it.

Oh well that's good. They said it was 70% full cause it wasn't sold out and then went down to 50% by the time she started at 11:30. There is also tons of articles about the late start and ppl wanting and getting refunds. Not a good way to end the tour regardless, especially after not being there for so long.

Its IS shocking that she's starting shows later and later and y'all have no issue with it. Everybody knows about it so that's why people were walking out asking for refunds because of the lateness? I have posted numerous times about how great her vocals and visuals are compared to the last tour. Sorry I don't worship her enough for u. She puts on a great show but comes out at 11:20 and to a tired audience and bad press to deal with. I do actually want her to get good press, she's had a hard time lately. That's all. lol.

The billowing music filled the room while a slew of soldiers marched across the stage carrying large crosses along a sword-shaped catwalk. And then, as the crowd grew more and more anxious, she was there…descending from an airborne cage onto the stage.

She's had a hard time lately, regarding the press ?? Oh, so you, conveniently, skipped all the raving reviews and is focussing on stories published by the UK Tabloids? . That's the only reason I find for you to say that ine more thing, how is her lateness shocking if she has been doing this since the Sticky & Sweet Tour, 8 freaking years ago?
It's not a matter of "worshipping her enough", but it's how you keep saying the same old and boring stuff time and time again,..... as if it was something new or unexpected!
Like she said, it's not like she's backstage drinking champagne or getting her extensions done, there's always something going wrong for her to be late and, knowing how attached to details and perfectionism she is, I believe her.

Tbh, I should be saying thanks for having me look this up. Madonna's joked about the stage looking like a penis, so I Googled 'Madonna penis stage' which lead to the actual concept from the ones who designed the stage.

The stage shape is derived from a hybrid of an arrow, a cross and a heart. A long narrow catwalk leading from the main stage divides the audience down the centre and extends deep in to the arena culminating into the heart shaped stage. Half way down the catwalk is the horizontal cross stage spanning almost the entire width of the arena. This stage formation allows Madonna and her dancers to reach more audience, closer up and more intimately than ever before.

Madonna's Rebel Heart tour a tour de force of power and eroticism

It has been 23 years between visits but Saturday night's packed concert at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena only proved the old adage that perhaps distance does make the heart grow fonder.

When Madonna was last in Australia she had just released her infamous book, Sex, and was riding on the back of her latest album, Erotica.

In the years since Madonna has become a mother-of-four and has seen countless imitators come and go.

But as she proved during her Melbourne Rebel Heart's show: "You don't mess with the Queen."

From the opening number, Iconic, Madonna commanded the stage. Even after all these years in the spotlight her sheer force and determination astounds.

What was most refreshing about Saturday night's tour de force is that the years have not tamed her desire to shock.

Madonna shows us she has the self-assured courage to challenge what seems "appropriate" for a woman of her age.

In recent years there have been comments that she needs to tone it down, or that she is too old to be overtly sexual. I think this goes hand in hand with the general sentiment that a woman of a certain age needs to relinquish her desire, and age gracefully.

But this is Madonna we are talking about — the woman who became a worldwide superstar rolling around the stage in an erotic fervour singing Like A Virgin.

Sex has always been her game and she is one of the best at it — and if anyone has the guts to not follow the boring notion of ageing gracefully, it is Madonna.

Madonna has survived a career spanning over 30 years in the often fickle world of pop music, and this concert is a testament to her skill as a performer, as well as an "I'll show you" to ageism.

It was a beautiful moment for a crowd who had grown up with her voice.

Her powerful rendition of Living for Love showcased her strong dancers, and it was great opportunity to focus on the female dancers who are amazing artists in their own right.

The show slowed down slightly in its final third, with a moving tribute to Molly Meldrum. Madonna singled him out in the audience and dedicated the song Take a Bow to, in her words, "the first Australian man to fall in love with me".

Meldrum responded as Madonna gave him a kiss by saying, "I ****ing love you".

Madonna smiled as the crowd chanted "Molly, Molly, Molly!" Many would remember their first encounter with the superstar more than 30 years ago on ABC's Countdown.

It was refreshing to see this side to her and as she sat on the side of the stage singing a beautiful version of the Edith Piaf standard La Vie En Rose, surrounded by a glow of twinkling iPhone lights, the crowd was mesmerised.

By the time she closed with the classic party anthem Holiday the crowd were on their feet. Hopefully it would not be another 23 years before her next holiday down under.
