I don't think season 5 was scripted, just the producers had to edit a lot of stuff out which made for wonky storylines. They had to act like Morgan got kicked out for the roommate fight instead of fighting with producers, they had to edit out Cat's vacation drama and write a fake note explaining her goodbye, and then edit out Kristen getting drugged at the club the night she fought Lea.
Natalie changed BGC in season 4 and Season 5 capitalized off that. Seasons 1-3 it was clearly about being bad but trying to better yourself. In season 4, Natalie changed the show and made it about showing just how bad you can be, and Kristen + her followers changed it again in season 5, making it about being badder than the other girls. All the alliances and kicking girls out stuff started in season 5 and sadly has been going on since.
Even though she's one of top 5 favorite bad girls ever and made her season one of the best, I have to admit Kristen kind of ruined the show in the long-run because everyone is trying to outdo everyone these days.

If you've watched all of them, might as well watch 1-3. Season 1 started it all and was a bit long and boring, but it still to this day has the best fight of all time with Queen Ripsi attacking the house. I'm pretty sure Ripsi alone guaranteed a 2nd season for BGC.
Season 2 is amazing, one of the best 3 seasons. Definitely watch it. Season 3 is okay but more infuriating than anything. If you think Valentina, Alicia, Jizmonae or any of these other new-fangled hoes are the pits just wait until you see the vile trash that is Ailea. Hands down the worst bitch to ever be on this show, I still hate her to this day.
