This. I usually do not take part in stan wars, but let's not pretend PRISM was not discounted months and months on iTunes - the biggest digital retailer. ARTPOP was discounted on iTunes twice - overall for 10 days.
It was sold back then for $8 - the same as PRISM. Now, its price is lowered, but this is not a classical discount. The album is being sold for $10.
We all know the gp swallows everything Katy Perry does - trash or not - but let's just try to stay objective.
Retailers can and do return excess shipments. That's why record labels keep unfaesably large reserves. Overshipping is also a tactic used to distort quarterly financial statements (like EMI a few years ago). The discrepancy between actual sales and shipments is concerning for UMG.
This is basic industry knowledge. Artpop is over-shipped and is going to cost Interscope money. Simple.
