If it weren't for another poster who once upon a time Typed Like This, Roger would be the best Canadian presence we've ever had here. He came with a pack of friends in 2004. An interesting study, he was a modern rock lover that also stanned hardcore for his Britney. (One of my fondest memories is his thread after he went to see the Onyx Hotel tour). But then, something tragic happened - because of outside forces (FROGGERT), most of his friends left. They abandoned him, and started their own forum/joined another one to bash ATRL. Did Roger pack it up and hightail it out of here? Nope! He stayed, quickly found a new obsession (the Killers) and became a stalwart, beloved presence in Music News and YTT. He still posts, and if he wanted it, he would be a perfect moderator.

Roger was such a good friend of mine back in 2005-2006! Really a very intelligent and nice person, but sadly we lost touch first time I took a few months off ATRL... And then he disappeared for a while as well. Now it's not easy to see him posting, but at least he's still here.

It's hard to believe, but ATRL was not so chart - obsessed. Well, we kinda were - we had recapes of TRL every day, but that was it. One day, somewhere in between fall 03 and winter 03-04, one enterprising soul changed all of this. There had been discussion on how some of our favorite pop stars were doing at radio ('Me Against the Music' had just ... underperformed), and people were curious as to how radio charts were compiled/tabulated. Justin, then (and always), known as GoldenBoy, found the first Mediabase chart and posted it here. It didn't even seem like a big deal back then; in retrospect, he fundamentally changed the (partial) function of this forum.
But that wasn't it. Justin was (and I think whoever will be #3 can back me up on this) one of the most attractive posters we've ever had here. He got along with everybody, and made it known that he wanted to be a singer. Almost all of the girls had slight crushes on him. Which was why, in a sea of gays, we were all caught completely off guard when he came out of the closet. It was maybe the most shocking outing this site has ever seen.
he kinda got less attractive and more used up after he came out though!
|
OH GOOD LORD, I actually remember the first Mediabase thread.
Never knew about those sexual discussions though, since I basically never posted on the Pics thread and stuff.

He's gay. He shares my real name. We went to the same high school. We are similarly obsessed with proper grammar. I'm being Single Black/Dominican Gay Male'd y'all!
Merging indie interests, pop star devotion and rock radio love into one tidy package, Vthingy made his mark on ATRL. He hasn't posted in months, and he's still being clamored for. He kinda snuck up on all of us, posting snarky comments and never failing to slap someone upside the head with common sense. I may not agree with him all the time (see his Best Moment, and his love for RHCP), but he's my ninja for real. 4real 4 real.
Best Moment: Just imagine the accent intact ... Negronce ... Negronce.

Freakin' hilarious. Did he leave too?

I still don't understand what that username means. In the winter of 08-09, Ciara stans were terrorizing the board. They mostly blended into one unintelligible, ignorant mass, with one or two standing out for their brashness. (#77!) But one didn't get lumped into the group, because she was (besides Brian) the first Ciara stan to post here - Tierra.
A lot of old members really didn't like Tierra. She seemed to be willfully ignorant and almost antagonistic towars any type of music that was created pre-Vision of Love. But, to know Tierra is to love her. (that is an oldies reference, TiTi - hopefully, one day you'll get it. )It took an onslaught of deludonoids from the planet Super C to make us realize how special Tierra really was.
Ongoing best moment: Tierra's very special relationship with the dictionary - apparently, definitely and defiantly can and will be used interchangeably.

TiTi. Always delightful to catch one of her posts. She can be a bitch, but even she acts like that you can see she does in a weird angelic way.

Post-whoring - an interesting concept. Some people join forums to meet people who share similar interests, or to engage in discussions that they wouldn't find in the real world. Some join to get the latest information. And some, it seems, join, just to occupy their time. These last people become what is known as post-*****s, people who comment on anything (usually without adding anything to the conversation). TRL Girl is a post***** extraordinaire. Or was. She joined, and before a year, had in between 10 and 20,000 posts. But she had never said anything especially worthwhile. I think to call her overzealous would have been a massive understatement.
This doesn't take into account her actual posting style. Her words were forgettable, but her attitude was not. Easily disturbed, she became belligerent at the slightest hint of disagreement. She also possessed no - I repeat, no - sense of humor. None at all.
And then she left. I forget why, something or someone had pissed her off. And she deleted every single post she had ever made. THOUSANDS OF POSTS. DELETED. IN ONE NIGHT.
She's back now - the last I saw her, she was excitedly (that's her default mode) calling Mariah Carey a bitch for not accepting her Latin heritage. TRL Girl, never change (and never find my address.)
|
She's a big part of ATRL, but I'm under the impression TRL Girl is multi-polar. She has acted in so many different ways over the years it seems like she's more than just one person.
BTW... I want my posts back, TRL Girl!!!

Lmao. Laughing my ass off. As you can see, Kevin's first name was xenajoxer03 - he only talked about Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules. He seemed mildly autistic, and mildly homophobic - but not hateful, just deathly afraid of the gay. And then, he came out. While certain members shocked us all by coming out, Kevin doing it was as obvious as Justin leaving *NSync.
Once he realized he was gay, he really became gay. But, as always with Kevin, we're not talking about adult behavior - imagine a 21 year old with the personality and the temperment of a 12 year old girl, and then you have Kevin. Who else would become as obsessed with Jesse McCartney? Or think that he was onto something by discovering that Lady Gaga isn't original/the Bible doesn't explicity say 'gay is bad/anything else that any reasonable adult would be able to grasp in seconds? You can always rely on Kevin to tell you something you've known for years, or to never, ever gracefully make a point. That, my friends, is why he's necessary.
Best Moment: Kevin's had SO MANY GREAT ONES, but there has to be a tie. **** Fusion/

Was it there to say about Queen Alexz? That he's taken some very, very personal shots about his weight like a champion? That he makes you buy a thesaurus to find new ways to say angry and infuriating? That his sarcasm is so deeply embedded that it's often hard to parse out what he actually means? Check, check and check. He switches alliance with his faves faster than a ***** takes off clothes, and the state of confusion that it creates is something Alexz lives for. If we're being honest, we live for it too.

Alejandro has also changed quite a lot, but you can see he's mostly acting out, so I wouldn't say it's some kind of 'condition'. I know there's a high possibility he will see this post of mine and try to trash me, but it's ok, I still like him a lot.

Two very different posters, sort of similar endings.
I can't attest to h0's beginnings, but from what I've heard, being mischieviously malevolent was kinda his thing. h0's idea of fun was hacking someone's account, or posting that beloved "anal ripping" picture anywhere he could. Some people liked it, some people didn't.
Shane, however, started as a nice kid. He was very young (like ten or eleven) and just wanted to be down with the chat crew. So he did things that would make him ashamed. He soon became a moderator, and that's where the trouble began. TC or Johnny could tell you all of the circumstances (I'm still confused by a lot of it), but Shane did something so stupid - so STUPID - that it was unforgivable. You see, because of his actions, this entire site was almost erased. He was ostracized, throwout from the kingdom - even after multiple apologies.
h0's Best Moment: When he hacked me (Irish spelling!) account. The sad thing was, it took hours for people to realize that I wasn't the one posting Bible scriptures.
Shane's Best Moment: Well, the site hacking - but it was more like the worst for him, wasn't it?

EPIC!!!

There are so many people I don`t know , but well, most of them were active on 2004 or 2005 so there is no way I have known them active
There are many senior members posting here, ( they came back from the dead ) it`s like a flashback to the good ATRL times, I enjoy almost all their posts, they are reall nice.
And I suppose that trend of not knowing anybody will continue xD. Looking forward to see Orange though

I thought it would be diverse to have a female on the moderation team (other than yumanari — where is she anyway?)

I want to see where Kworb lands. He's such an essential piece to the success of the Charts section. One of the main reasons I finally registered. I stayed in the charts area for the first few months of my registration.

53. Duca
I have to be honest - Duca really rubbed me the wrong way. I'm the first person to say that phrases like "I think" and "in my opinion" should be outlawed - you're speaking/typing, so of course it's your opinion! But Duca phrases everything so declaratively - even when he's WRONG (Girls Aloud aren't progressive? then why are they the most critically acclaimed girl group of the last decade?) - that it can be, and sometimes still is, a real turnoff. But that's what makes him memorable. Once you realize he's never going to change lmao I can't believe someone can hate rihanna because she was a victim of domestic abuse, but Duca can ..., it's a heckuva lot easier to tolerate him. Who knows, you can even learn to like him! It's hard to respect someone who doesn't see brit-brit for the dead-eyed heavily medicated slovely wallbeast she's become.

51. Solutionz
Delusional. Upsetting. Pathetic. All words that describe Solutionz. But how about some more psychological terms? Mentally unstable. Bipolar. Schizophrenic. Yes, yes, YES. It's hard to determine whether Jordin Sparks should be proud that she has a STAN somewhere out there, or whether she should change all her passwords on a daily basis. Solutionz, unlike other stans, always wavered in his support for his fav. So why is he here? 1) all of the duplicate accounts after his MANY bannings. 2) he was entertaining. 3) most importantly, he helped introduce the idea of stanning to ATRL - we musn't forget this.
Best Moment: whenever Solutionz started a fight - it was only a matter of time until he got owned.

2010 has been an off-year for ATRL - everyone admits this. Pop music is at its worst right now, and so nobody wants to discuss anything. What has come of age this year? The art of stanning. There are at least five posters that have been mentioned that were all very important, but perhaps none has run the table - and been so unrivalled doing it - as Satelites. Say what you will about him, but he is HBIC. All the newbies defer to him, and some others attain coolness by hanging with him. He is KING right now, and that has to be considered important. He still has a ways to go (like finally understand that there is a difference between a singer with a wide range - and a great singer/understanding that some of the best pop stars have the weakest voices - and that's what makes them great), but I can't see anyone displacing him anytime soon.

50. NorMal
2008 started as a wasteland year on ATRL. Many, MANY old members were either gone, leaving, or on the cusp of deucing out (including yours truly.) There were a lot of new faces, brought on by the switch of name (from ATRL to Popfusion and back), but none had really stepped up to the plate. There was no one to really galvanize the masses.
Until NorMal came. A streetsmart Brandy stan, he practically introduced things that everyone takes for granted now - black gay man lingo, championing of dance/pop artists, gifs. He knew enough to never let anyone get the upper hand on him, but also was willing to discuss music seriously. He could be strident (especially if you disagreed with him) and sometimes stood up for things on the sake of importance and not quality (KEN. DAHL.), but the ATRL of today could not have existed without him.
In fact, it's fair to say that #49 owes a LOT to him ....

34. Matto
Avatars are such a common thing, that it's easy to forget that someone somewhere had to start using them at ATRL. If memory serves me correctly, Matto was one of the first. If that wasn't enough, he was an all-around swell kid who wasn't hated by anyone (and any poster knows how hard that feat is to pull off.)
Best Moment: Oprah - any old timer knows what I'm talking about.
