It depends though.
For example, we had albums like PRISM and Britney Jean a few days early and there was no official statement to say we couldn't open the stock and "use" it. Just the date it was to be stocked on shelves. Sometimes they encourage it to be played in stores a few days before and after for promotional purposes.
But albums like ARTPOP and Beyoncé came with strict instructions that the stock could only be opened on the day of the set release (even though Beyoncé was already available on iTunes
it's just the album edit, radio edit and instrumental.
