I'm pretty sure our senses are heightened from adrenaline so that could contribute to that.
But yeah, I think a lot of my beliefs come from the fact that my parents are Central American and they've been exposed to ghost stories all their lives. My mom who has no reason to lie to me, especially at my age, tells me stories that she swears by, as well as stories from her sisters and even her father who swears he had an encounter with the devil when he was a young man. A lot of these stories also happened in groups, so with 3-4 witnesses, I have a hard time believing they're fake.
And I've had my share of experiences that would have led to me believing whether or not I was introduced to the idea.

I definitely understand what you're saying. I am by no means doubting what people perceived, so i'm not saying that people that speak of supernatural events are lying, because they are speaking to their individual subjective truths. I mean, this kind of brings up one of my points. Some supernatural experiences are unique to a culture and belief system. So in areas where they do not follow a religion that acknowledges a "devil" you don't really hear about much devil sightings, similar to chupacabra which has been seen in only Latin America.
Just as there are many supernatural experiences from the East that Westerns simply may not experience simply because they weren't really introduced to the idea if you get what i'm saying. But you do raise some interesting points
