So I had to listen to this Maria track because everyone is saying it's a Billie Jean ripoff. Thematically, I get that, but am I the only one who doesn't think it sounds like Billie Jean?
Make no mistake, though, Michael Jackson is all over that track. But it sounded like something off Dangerous. It reminded me of this song, actually.

I don't have the patience to write reviews, but I'll be sure to post my thoughts after I listen to the whole thing. I've actually heard some good things about it outside of ATRL, so my expectations are rather high.
Maria sounds like a Jackson-Timberlake hybrid (leaning towards the Jackson end).
The Billie Jean is definitely there, but anyone calling it a ripoff is a fool. You're right that it's similar thematically. He wrote and built the song with the intention of trying to capture some of Billie Jean. But I certainly don't believe it's terribly similar musically.
