Register the codes with Origin that came with the discs. Easy done
I'd try it first before buying it to be sure. It's pretty bare bones compared to the previous two games only good qualities imo is the job system and CAS.

I love creating houses, I don't really care about the gameplay. If I'm buying it I'm doing it for the build mode, so should I?

It's only really bare bones when it comes to family play. There's alot of depth with Hobbies and Personalities etc
Stick to TS3 or TS2.
