Having a slow run could actually be to her benefit for several reasons.
1. Promo can keep the song afloat and rising through the year-end freeze.
2. By releasing the video late, she can give it one last good push after the New Year.
3. By growing a bit more slowly, it'll peak both digitally and on radio closer to the same time.
4. By the time this song reaches its peak, Katy/The Monster will no longer be obliterating the charts with massive spin increases and such OR Katy will have her next single out and DWUW won't have to compete for the same buzz factor.
5. Plus, by giving both Applause and Do What U Want time to shine, it'll maximize exposure for the album and continue pleasing the radio DJ's and the listeners and getting that "so-called lost radio power," that she once had!
