The song was released less than a week ago, of course radio directors are spinning the song heavily.
Usually Britney's single radio play positively affects iTunes sales. It isn't the case this time, (dark red updates)

I didn't imply it was selling stellar on iTunes. I was just pointing out concrete facts that show iTunes is only one side of the equation. It isn't just getting radio play for the fun of it. People want to hear the song. That's why you have radio directors quoted in the Billboard article that say that the response has been great. That's why it got requested enough to be number 2 on one of the largest radio stations in the country's countdown.
On top of that, it's getting respectable Vevo views and climbing up the Spotify chart.
I'm not pulling anything out of thin air either. I'm pulling from radio updates, an article from a respected music authority, and data from Vevo and Spotify. I agree its run on iTunes is disappointing, but that doesn't mean the "public" isn't "feeling it." Especially when according to radio listeners and music streamers, they are. They apparently didn't "feel" Scream and Shout either which peaked lower its first week on iTunes than Work Bitch, yet that went on to become one of the biggest hits this year, eventually claiming the top spot on iTunes.
Not every song goes through the same life cycle. Work Bitch could just need time to catch on. It could also end up flopping, but who cares? One thing's for sure, If it doesn't do well commercially, you can bet that most well adjusted people won't be sending death threats her way.

Applause sounds exactly like what you'd expect out of Gaga. Roar is another "your the best" preachy Dr. Luke+Katy Perry track. Please name another song on the radio that has a similar structure to or hits as hard as Work Bitch. You can't, because there aren't any. Yes it's also dance music like most of what gets played on Top 40, so while it fits in fine enough, it does it while also sounding like nothing else out there.
But we can just agree to disagree, I guess.
