I'm not even that strong on the issue, and I didn't have a problem with it until the
apes stormed the human outpost. It just felt so "this is what happens if we don't destroy all the guns."
In all honesty, I think I was just surprised by the 91 on RT. Had it been in the 70s or 80s, I don't think I would've disliked it as much. Also, would've liked it if they had used Keri Russell in a more central sense (just get rid of the dad altogether and have the new stepmother raising the son). They didn't give her nearly enough to do
even if it was her character who gave Caesar initial trust
. I definitely preferred Maleficent over it (altogether less predictable), as with Godzilla and Edge of Tomorrow. Probably will like GotG too. Had I seen a crappy movie before it, I think I would've enjoyed it more. But the last film I had seen in theaters was Snowpiercer and that was a tough movie to beat.
I also think had I not liked Rise so much, I wouldn't have been so disappointed. The opening was AMAZING though - incredible texture (felt 3D in my 2D showing).
