Radio Phone Album Review
UNIVERSE ~deep LOVE~ (orchestral heart version)
Track One. Step Into My World
YAS! This song starts the album off with strong bang! This song is a definite banger. Very upbeat hip hop with some rock pop influence as well (rock guitar riff ftw), and very catchy. Indeed, this song makes you want to bounce bounce, just as Kumi urges you to. Kumi is just too cool on this song. The the title couldn't be more appropriate! This album is Kumi's musical universe, and you're getting ready to take a step (a mighty big step at that!) into her world.
Are you ready? 5/5
Track Two. Can We Go Back
This song picks right up where the last song left off, but warps the sounds into a upbeat alternative rock, but it has a rhythm that makes you want to dance along with it. I love the sudden contrast in sound from the first track to this track. Kumi is vocally strong in this song, sounding very pleading to go back to the way it used to be, and yet demanding it at the same time. Her ad-libs are awesome! 5/5
Track Three. SUPER STAR
Without a doubt Kumi's most cute and also her best cutesy song! This song is straight up win! It's quite wonderful to hear how Kumi can sing in such a cute way for cute songs, and also that the vocal strength is kept constant throughout is great as well. This song is straight up cutesy win. 5/5
Track Four. You're So Beautiful
A more mid-tempo ballad, but it's still very rhythmic and groovy, as well as somewhat majestic sounding. The musical composition is amazing; you have the slight R&B base, the acoustic vibe, and violins, the guitar strumming; it's all amazing and flawless. The song's message is simply great. An uplifting song of comfort and admiration. Kumi's singing is truly the icing on the cake in this song. Later in the song Kumi releases the ad-lib monster, and she wraps up the track with her trademark ad-libs full of strength and passion. 5/5
Track Five. Lick Me
Not even gonna ask why a cutesy song like this is called Lick Me! But it's a great song. Very uptempo and cute, and edgy as well. 4/5
Track Six. Work It Out!
This electro/synth rock pop song is great and like a unique fresh direction from the past couple songs. This is another song where the kicked up chorus, it's melody, and properly used autotune of Kumi's excellent vocals in the chorus put you in something like a trace, lol. 5/5
Track Seven. No Way
Another midtempo ballad-like R&B song with pop flares. It's slower tempo than You're So Beautiful, and also more chill and is just mean to be more of a soothing groove. It's pretty. 3/5
Track Eight. Stay
A cute song! The sparkle-like sounds the song begins with and continues throughout the song are a charm. The song is more of a chill groovy cutesy song, mid-tempo, and but it's still so good! This is song that you sway side to side with. Kumi's singing is so good. 4/5
Track Nine. Comes Up
I love the melody of the chorus in the song, which the song begins with. This is a cute song as well, which Kumi is always good with. 4/5
Track Ten. Physical Thing
Throw me a curve ball Kumi! Indeed this song is big curve ball from the previous couple songs, lol. It's some funky uptempo synth pop material. Not bad, interesting, lol. Interesting. 3/5
Track Eleven. Ecstacy
Following in the steps of Physical Thing, this song is it's sister: Ecstacy. It's a fast paced dancy electro/synth pop song. Again, not bad. It's a good listen. 3/5
Track Twelve.. UNIVERSE
Ha ha! This is so damn catchy! I love it! Uptempo and dancy! This song has great rhythm. The chorus holds nearly all of the strength for this song. I love all of the oomph behind the
"Universe!" lyric she sings in the chorus, and it's repetition. And all of the synthesizers going off in the chorus (and in the bridge leading up to the final two choruses as well) sound great as well. 5/5
Track Thirteen. It's all Love!
Wow wow wow! This song is awesome! During the verses is sounds like a slighty retro-ish rock song, and you're getting all into it and loving it, and then the chorus kicks in and BAM! A constant back to back blow after blow of a consistent hard hitting rock hook; Kumi sounding like a total rocker chick throughout! The melody of the singing during this part is very catchy and well done, I love it. This song's bridge is also very cool; it sounds like a "breakdown," as if there would be a dance break during this section. Just as the song says, this song is all love! 5/5
Track Fourteen. Alive
This very ballad song made me think of Mulan for some strange reason, lol. I'm sure you can hear it too! But anyway! It's a nice song, winter and all, but too plain. It doesn't have any sure strength, not for me anyway. 2/5
4/5 album all together. The album started off awesome, and remained so for the first half, but during the second half dropped the ball SLIGHTY, with some "eh" songs, some awesome songs, and some really good songs. Not a huge deal at all, but it is something I noticed. Still a great album, and I love it!
