Bill what single that didn't hit no. 1 do you feel should have taken the top spot?

There have been a lot of rumors and confirmations going in every other way. I understand Nielsen doesn't want the sajaegi scandals that are plaguing South Korea (mass buying of singles by record labels) so they try to keep it relatively on the down low, but it would be nice to have some confirmation.

This isn't the first time conflicting reports have come up, though. I am just hoping we get official confirmation.

I read an article on Billboard a few days ago (admittedly it was from 2006, but..) that said buying multiple is fine as long as it is a very small amount. The example being that someone bought 800 copies of a single and was surprised when it didn't count towards the chart, but if she had bought 10 copies in 80 different stores it probably would've counted. (Edit: Here's the source!)
It'd be nice to know Billboards current stance on the matter!

Hi Sir Bill, was Taylor's team justified in not releasing 'Sparks Fly' to Pop Radio?
Was it the HIT that Taylor missed in the Speak Now era?

Thanks so much for backing my question and providing some past insight! I wish Billboard would once and for all answer the iTunes questions.
Btw, for anyone interested in what the link said:

Hey Fred,
I always enjoy reading your Chart Beat Chat column. I've been following it for some time now. I don't remember seeing an answer to this question I have concerning iTunes purchases, but I could be mistaken.
Do multiple purchases on iTunes count toward sales figures? I know iTunes has something in place to prevent you from making the mistake of purchasing the same album/single twice or multiple times. However, if you do end up buying an item multiple times, do all of your purchases count and are they figured into the sales figures? For example, if I bought a single two or three times, would every purchase count or would they only count the first purchase from my account? Thanks in advance!

Dear Dan,
Buying a track two times would count as two sales. There could be a number of reasons you would want to buy the same song twice (maybe you want to have it on 10 different computers). However, if you were to buy a track, let's say, oh, 800 times, that would be considered an anomaly and would not count. So it's not possible to rig the charts by buying the same track an exorbitant amount of times. The same has always been true of physical records as well.
I know someone who purchased several hundred copies of the same CD single a few years ago to give out as gifts, and was surprised to find out that sale was not counted for the charts. I explained to her later that her sale must have been considered an anomaly, and possible chart-rigging, although that wasn't her intent. Perhaps if she had purchased 10 singles each at 80 different stores she would have made an impact on the charts, but I don't think she had the time or energy.

Anybody else interested in the same question?

Looks like that's the best we're gonna get from them though - I mean, I posted the question and several other members quoted asking the same thing, he replied to someone else two posts after, so he definitely saw it, we just don't know if he can't answer that or he simply does not know.

And, the official audio on VEVO for Applause has been unlisted, it had 12.8M views before hand, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bHhpufKRjs, did those views count for Applause's first week?
Thank you

Not true that 100 streams equals one sale. Not even really sure what that means.
And taking down a video wouldn't mean we don't count the views.

Which iTunes question? Sorry. There's a lot of pages of questions and I'm kind of randomly jumping around as I view this forum on my phone between meetings and in taxis.
We don't comment on the threshold because we don't want to create a road map for labels or fans or anyone to cheat. Suffice it to say that fan activity that is conceivably normal will count. Systems look for anomalies, be them by geographic region or individual IP or any other number of ways.

Bill I would like know if you know any artists personally, or is every relationship with an artist just professional? For example, on your avatar you have Gaga and Beyonce, will they be calling you anytime soon or do they know you by name, ect.

Met him at Grammy after party last year. He was very nice. But we only exchanged hello and a few other pleasantries about the night. He was low key in the perfect way you'd hope he'd be. He spent much of the night drinking and chatting with Jimmy Iovine, an old friend of his who I believe engineered some of his early work.

I never share this. There are a few artists I've become friendly with over the years. But I keep the personal personal.

Bill,
How do you feel about Female Rapper Trina giving Nicki Minaj a tribute/salute at the BMI awards?
Do you think there should be more unity in female rap?
