That happened to a really nice guy I've known during middle school. He hung out with the seniors and he basically just ditched all of his friends and paraded around acting a fool. Happy that the seniors graduated so his pathetic self can stay being alone.

This recently happened to me
This sexy transfer student from Spain (who I believe is straight but gives me lots of gay vibes) was flirting/being really friendly with me for like a week or two, then he started hanging out with the snotty kids and he doesnt even acknowledge me anymore
