Coming at number two is Bloc Party with
Mercury. The track is is repeated in an almost endless cycle at the onset, vocalist Kele Okereke's voice being echoed into a chopped and screwed pastiche that eventually culminates with a chugging, slowed down guttural growl that signals the advent of the track itself. The song is filled with intensity and it builds up to the last minute and that is what I love about
Mercury. The song reminds me of a revolution and a different sound from Bloc Party, a more electronic vibe. The last verse with the elevating music makes
Mercury exciting and cheerful. The chorus itself is super catchy and I cannot help it but sing along to it in my head. I must say that
Mercury is possibly Bloc Party's best single EVER, it's that good. The effort they put into this record definitely shines through especially the chaotic sound fills with fast and frantic drum beats mixed with string melodies. The clip for this track is so awesome, it's like a nightmare that makes you laugh, I mean a monster takes over the world and drop a nuclear bomb, scary yet brilliant.
I'm so late, but if people still comment I'll post my number one real soon.
