Eh... I'm not sure that NY Magazine has EVER been much to praise anyone "popular" - even after they reach legendary status. It's basically what the hipster youth becomes once employed.

Honestly, this backlash is actually quite good right now because it's giving her even more attention (promotion).

It's true. People forget that practically every single legend there is had plenty of detractors in their day. That's not a catch-all defense against legitimate criticism, but it's good to keep in mind. There's nothing new under the sun.

To be perfectly honest, Madonna and Micheal Jackson are overrated to the high heavens. Personally I don't think thier music is as progessive as people make it out to be.

Madonna, yes -- she didn't write her own music and control her image as much as Gaga does. MJ, I think was a true artist, even though he did have his personal issues.
