Serious question: do people really think Ariana Grande is a huge star?

I'll only speak for the U.S., but aside from the donut incident, I've never heard anyone talk about Ariana. The exception might be that song she released with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj, but I don't believe anyone actually associated that song with any sense of "her". Someone like Selena Gomez feels infinitely more visible. They talk about her every damn morning on the radio as if she were a Kardashian. Even when Ariana was debuting 400K+, her success was just confusing. I just never witnessed any fandom or intrigue for her at all, from anyone, ever.

She has had 7 Top 10 hits in less than 3 years, and is a radio & streaming staple and everyone knows who she is. She may not be A-level, but she is definitely one of the top faces of today in Pop Music.

I don't get how you could deny it even if you don't hear her much in real life convos.

I'm looking at those hits now, and they're basically all duds other than the 1-2-3 streak at the beginning of My Everything. That was a great start, but it never seemed to translate into any actual public interest. Meghan Trainor's singles from her last album were bigger. Everything since Love Me Harder has been more or less a dud.
