"Used to Be" was originally released as a single in 2008, however the version on Teen Dream sounds very different and has been slightly rewritten. The upbeat, almost danceable instrumental of the song is overshadowed by the wistful lyrics, as Vicoria tries to convince herself that her lover is "coming home any day now" with the emotion in her voice telling us that he isn't.
Also, check out this cute performance of the song, high at the beach. The vocals, poor our faves!
Best bit: The outros in both versions are flawless. Best lyrics: "Are you not the same as you used to be?"
Bonus question: Which version of "Used to Be" do you prefer.(Hint: they're both 10/10.)
It's a shame because Teen Dream is the only album where all songs got multiple 10s. But certain people only listening to it once dragged their averages down.
"Home" is the final track on This Is Happening. James Murphy told NME he wanted to make the album closer "something with a happy ending" he continued: "I wanted it to be about being in a band and how much I like it. (Although) I don't like leaving my life. You leave your home, your friends, your dog. "
Best bit: The instrumentation Best lyrics: "This is the trick, forget a terrible year"
