I'll give you Adele, Gotye, and fun., but those artists and their popular songs are the exception, not the rule.
can you think of any song on pop radio right now that sounds remotely like "Settle Down"? is reggae/dancehall doing well on pop radio at the moment? is it a safe choice? no, so it was a ****ing risk.
Toronto has been playing this song a lot, and not just radio. I heard this song at my friends party yesterday, at a sidewalk sale downtown, and at a university event the other day. The general public is eating this up!!!
I read on the fansite that the next single will be released before the album's release. And they will perform 4 new songs in the iHeart Radio Music Festival in Las Vegas, sep 21.

The song is almost top 20 on radio, and this is well after the radio deal. The song has an outside shot of going Top 10 on radio. I think it really is up to the digital sales. If you notice, if a song is doing well on iTunes, it's radio updates are generally going to be some of the best, while singles that fail to sell well on iTunes get paid dust.
I think we can all agree that "Settle Down" is not a flop.
