The song that took Brandy to a whole new level. The song was absolutely MASSIVE. Global domination with a pure R&B song was kinda unheard of before this . The song went top 5 in virtually every single market it was released to. The biggest being of course, the United States. The song was #1 for a whopping THIRTEEN weeks. If you multiply all 6 of Britney Spears weeks @ #1 by 2, it STILL wouldn't be as much as this. This MAMMOTH of a song slayed the charts and made Brandy a staple. You can't talk about female duets without mentioning The Boy Is Mine. You can't talk about musical rivalries without bringing up Brandy & Monica. The song is SO good. That phone call in the beginning is EXCELLENT. I wish it was on the video, but I'll settle for on Never Say Never.
I got a few fun facts about this song too. First of all, the song was inspired by an episode of JERRY SPRINGER that Brandy was watching. Originally it was gonna be a solo song with Brandy speaking to a girl about getting tf away from her man. BUT her label thought it would be a great idea to bring in Monica, who was releasing music at the same time. I can't blame you if you didn't know who Monica was, but she also released an album in 1995 as a teenager which scored 4 top 10's. She later went on to mooch off the song which she had no part in crafting's success and title her album "The Boy Is Mine".
The 2nd fun fact is that the song developed ACTUAL rivalry between the two. The song was only performed a handful of times together because the women did not like each other. All due to a misunderstanding created by their labels & the media to kind of egg on the song's success. It worked though!
3rd fun fact, there is a remix of the song which has the solo version with rapper Shaunta () and it's kinda hot
Although Darkchild has released countless hits, this remains his biggest & most notable song.
supa says "The opening dialogue and the final vocal battle are camp heaven. If you’ve never performed both parts simultaneously when this came on the radio, then you clearly haven’t lived enough." Iconic Brandy attributer qurl credits Brandy for helping him realizing he was gay. "arguably how i knew i was gay." Queen of LGBT
Also I gave a hint earlier. This song has actually EIGHTEEN 10s, and would've been #3 had it not been for the 0 it was given
You didn't know ADC? As an MC stan, I assumed you knew all the best 90s R&B music.
I've loved Brandy for YEARS but it was more of like me having respect for her as an artist. I loved a few of her songs (I stanned for Two Eleven when it came out) but I'm now getting into the rest of her discography. I've been slowly getting into classic R&B over the past few years though. I love Janet's discography (minus the mixtapes ) and I've been getting into Whitney's catalog as well. I still have a lot to learn

I'm glad you participated sis. I can recommend some.
I know it's not 90's, but Teedra Moses's "Complex Simplicity" is PHENOMENAL. Woo. The first time I heard it I was FLOORED.
