Latina actress ROSIE PEREZ struggled through Christmas (05) with a hip injury after trying to dance to her favourite BEYONCE KNOWLES hit on the treadmill at her local gym.
The WHITE MEN CAN'T JUMP star was ordered to rest up over the holidays by doctors who treated her after she badly bruised her hip bone in a freak accident.
She explains, "I hurt my hip, I bruised my bones. I was dancing on the treadmill when it was running.
"When I'm on the treadmill I like to do the iPod thing and everything like that and my favourite artist to exercise to is Beyonce - I love her and all of a sudden her song CRAZY IN LOVE comes on and I lost it.
"I started fantasizing I had the blonde wig... and I had the mini-dress on, I had JAY-Z by my side.. and then bang - I got too excited and I miscalculated the rhythm with the thing going."

For Serena Williams, few things are as important to her as the music she walks out to before facing off against an opponent. It’s the one thing that really gets her going before a big match. So in an effort to find the perfect song to help her set things off, the ten-time Grand Slam champion has teamed up with Ludacris’s website WeMix.com to give aspiring musicians the chance to create the song she’ll use to take the court at the U.S. Open in New York City in August. Artists can submit their unique songs now for consideration (entrants can also submit their song through Williams’s own site, serenawilliams.com).
But before you rig up the Auto-Tune and get to work, know this: VIBE isn’t about to have you throwing a bunch of half-assed songs into the competition. This is Serena Williams, people! So we went straight to the source and asked the 27-year-old Women’s Tennis Association champ to fill in the blanks about her favorite songs, artists and albums. For all you aspiring songwriters (yeah, we know you’re tuning into VIBE.com), check out what she served up. Then, get in the lab and make something guaranteed to get Serena open at the Open.
The music I like is…Hip hop. But I like to go out to everything. I love pop. I love R&B. I’m a little bit of everything.
(...)
But if I’m really trying to get crazy, I put on… Beyoncé! She just has such hot songs. When I’m out and they play her record, it’s just like, “There you go!”
And since now you’re wondering if I can do the “Single Ladies” dance…Yeah, I can pretty much do it.

For many new artists, the first year after the release of their debut albums are filled with highlights. Getting into swanky parties, meeting some cool fellow artists, maybe flying first class for the first time.
One of the biggest highlights for Barbados-born beauty Shontelle, is getting to tour alongside one of music’s most adored superstars, and her idol, Beyonce. The 24-year-old singer, who found success with her irresistible single “T-Shirt,” opened for the Mighty B on her tour across Europe and the UK last spring.
“That changed my life,” Shontelle told Neon Limelight in a recent phone interview. “Just that feeling that you’ve been embraced by one of the biggest stars in the world, and not just her, but her entire team, that made me really feel like I’m [doing this] for a reason.
“Even when it feels like everything isn’t going the way you want, or it’s moving slow, or it’s come to a stop completely, you have an experience like touring with Beyonce and it reminds you of why you do this.”
Beyonce, who Shontelle describes as “an amazing human being,” made it a point to sit down and meet Shontelle to share some kind words. “She literally looked me in the eye and said ‘You are so beautiful. I see your videos on TV all the time… I hear your voice every night and [it's] incredible. I want you to work really hard because you’re gonna do so well.’ And I’m like ‘Beyonce is telling me this!? Are you serious right now?’”
She says touring with Beyonce was a once in a lifetime experience she made sure to pay close attention to in hopes of picking up some pointers. “I watched how she’s not afraid to experiment. She’s not afraid to try different types of music and different things, and I feel like that’s why her fanbase is so huge.
“I watched her perfectionism. She won’t even hide that. She’ll tell you ‘I am a perfectionist. You had better get this right or I will get mad.’ I watched her soundcheck, her rehearsals, hung out with all of the dancers, the stylists, and everybody has a story to tell about Beyonce.”
Being on the tour with Beyonce, she says, pushed her from just being a fan of the Grammy winning singer to “stan status.” “I can’t thank Beyonce enough. It really did change my life.”

Furler’s contributions to Christina Aguilera’s Bionic were undoubtedly the highlight of that overcooked album, and the industry response to the tracks — including You Lost Me, perhaps Aguilera’s finest ballad ever — have encouraged her to approach other artists. Her dream, she said, is to write for Beyonce. And it seems that’s not all she’d like to do with her.
“I wanna go. To Beyonce. All the way,” she purred lasciviously. “She is my queen.”
“I’m friends with her sister [Solange Knowles], but I would never ever use that connection to get to her. Solange knows I love her sister — I was on my way to Beyonce’s concert in LA and Solange texted to say ‘You’re gonna love it. She’s like a glam alien’. And she was, she was a glam alien. She is my queen,” she sighed.

She's got it all: She writes wonderful songs and is a great singer. She's fashion, she's cosmetics, she's in movies, she's multitalented, and she's nice. This is such an accolade-driven business; people get hyped so much they don't keep their feet on the ground. But she's done wonderful job with that. Her parents put the right thoughts in her mind. I admire her and them. Beyonce's got all the happenings happenin'. There's this thing called IT, and she's got it. She's the bomb."

I do! I just find a lot of female music kind of boring unless it's got an infectious beat to it. That's why it's exciting what's happening in music right now. It's great to see so many different female artists headlining the Grammys and being the main acts. Lady Gaga and Pink and Beyonce and Rihanna, they're all doing interesting things and being recognized by people. There's something sort of ... I'm just not that into the sort of lazy rhythm of folk music. So if you throw a beat in there, it's a lot more captivating to me, somehow. It hits me and whatever makes me want to move, I get into it. It's not just hip-hop, there's some great female rock artists out there that I love. Juliana Hatfield, I love Feist, she's awesome.

It’s always interesting when a seemingly “serious” band pronounces their love of light-hearted pop music, like you guys appeared to do by covering Beyoncé’s “Sweet Dreams” during a recent BBC Radio session. Are you, in fact, smitten by pop music?
I don’t thing there is anything light-hearted about Beyoncé. I think she is the real deal, a 21st century star like Aretha Franklin or Tina Turner.

Who was your first celebrity crush?
Gosh, there's been so many of them. Beyonce is a current crush. Christina Aguilera. There's definitely something about a girl who can sing. The funny thing is that in Austin, Beyonce's younger sister [Solange Knowles] is going to be on the same bill with us at Ace's Lounge.

The xx may be the 'it' band of the blog-reading set, but they are also huge fans of a more mainstream 'it' girl: Beyonce.
"I think she's one of the most exciting performers of our generation," vocalist/bassist Oliver Sim tells Spinner, echoing recent statements from fellow indie acts Arctic Monkeys and Of Montreal. "I went to see her in concert in May, and she is an amazing performer with an amazing voice. It's gotten to a point where it's undeniable."
While it might seem surprising that the new indie darlings would be enamoured of the commercial hit machine that is Ms. Knowles, the UK three-piece don't make distinctions when it comes to genre. And it makes sense -- all the members of the xx are just 20 years-old, from a generation of mixed-up genres where cheese-tastic pop can live next to the latest hipster-approved underground track.

What are your musical guilty pleasures?
I guess Top 40 stuff, but I don't know if I should feel guilty about that. I mean, everybody likes Beyoncé; she's a really good singer, and a lot of her songs are real concentrated and catchy. I don't think one should feel guilty. It's Top 40 music, but I'm not ashamed.
