I think it'd be great if she brought back (or revolutionized) the musical. I understand the usual "but she always plays a singer" aspect, but to me that is a petty criticism. To say that every singing role is the same character with the same experiences, backgrounds, conflicts, etc. etc is incredibly close-minded. Beyonce lets out so much emotion when she sings (for example "All I Could Do was Cry" from
Cadillac Records) that it'd be a same to waste the oppurtunity. I think she could carve her niche in films as reviving the singing-actress like Judy Garland, Doris Day, Barbara Streisand, Whitney Houston, Liza Minelli, and all the other hundreds of ones from the 30s-60s. She doesn't always have to play a singer, but she could play someone who sings in the movie, has a singing aspect, or its just a straight up musical. Imagine a
Sound of Music style movie with Beyonce in it.
