I think it's just a Kpop thing. Just like every male has to put their hand into a fist, then reach out, then pull back, then grab their heart and arch their back and turn to the side for a high note, then whip their head back around hard enough for their hair to flip a little bit and then move into another position for someone else to take the lead spot in the choreo.
