The music is great but it just seems inaccessible in terms of information, and the language barrier doesn't help with this.

Hey, so I started actively following K-pop january this year so I might be able to help. I think what helped me was figuring out who my fave artists/groups were and what company belonged to them. Theres 3 main big Kpop companies: SM, JYP, YG. Once you figure out who your faves belong to it makes things a bit easier.
Second most K-pop groups cb (come back) twice a year it seems, and if you have a lot of faves it can feel like you're getting albums every week. A typical release is a group/artist dropping
1 music video which is the lead single and also the
entire album that day. Then they just promote it for a while on different shows (this is where I'm not that knowledgable about because I don't care about competitions that much but it can be a fun part of being into K-pop) and that's kind of it.
You get into the rhythm of things quickly because of how fast paced the industry. From an outsider looking in, everything seems a mess because there are multiple releases every day from all kinds of acts but actually it's probably the most well planned way to go about things in the industry. Also following twitter accounts of your faves is probably the easiest way because there are so many english speaking fans who translate stuff and are super dedicated.
Judging by your sig (Yas @ Bjork, St. Vincent, Madonna, Carly, ANOHNI, Charli, Esperanza!!) You seem to like more left-field sounding music that is still pretty pop at its core. I don't know if you already have faves but I'd recommend that you check out f(x) 2 albums "Pink Tape" and "4 Walls", Red Velvet "The Red", Stellar "Sting", Girls Generation "The First Japanese Album", Wonder Girls "Reboot" and LUNA "Free Somebody". These albums might really interest you. Anyways I've seen a lot of your posts around and I hope you end up joining the K-pop thread because you're cool.
