It did seem very plain to me (the original). But I didn't actually look at it, just the lyrics. Maybe the melodies save it.

That's why I pretty much didn't even bother seriously looking at Taylor's songs.
There was... one... that I considered, that I think would've been a well-recieved entry, but...

I chose the song that I chose because inspiration struck, not because I wanted to write a sequel to a Dolly song. Incidentally, she was initially one of the first people I crossed off the list of possibilities because nothing came to me at the time.

I will say, it's not completely a bad idea to chose a fave's song, because you're more familiar with their writing style and how their stories can develop.

But I'm going to go ahead and write one more song and then compare it to what I've already written and see what I like better.

Sadly I'm not talking about only people choosing songs by their faves, but more so choosing songs which lack much lyrical content. It's on this page alone. I think you'll find it very hard to really succeed if you are basing your own song upon one you chose which is not particularly strong in the first place.

I can see this sis.

My original song is pretty much an observation. The song itself doesn't really tell of a story like a lot of others do. But I was trying to turn that observation into a story for my sequel. It was the most inspiring song I've had so far so I just ran with it

Well I know my song isn't a lyrical masterpiece, but it gave me an image to work with and a story to write, so I went with it. It wasn't even my fave on DW when I decided to make a continuation of it.

It grew on me a lot when writing my song, though.

I purposely avoided doing a "classic" song that was amazing lyrically because I'd be expected to live up to that standard, and that's just not realistic.

So I never talk about production in here, despite me doing it as a hobby. I guess I may as well, even though I don't think many of you can relate.

I've been working on something that's different for me. It's a song that's in 6/3 time measure (usually it's 4/4, as that's the standard in most popular music), and there's a bit more focus on instruments such as strings, although it keeps the electronic feel I usually have in my production. I'm really excited to finish it.
