Are there any other horror movies like Sinister, which has a good balance of jump scares, discomfort (if you have seen Sinister you know what I'm talking about) and 'back story' (not looking for something that's only there to scare you, like for instance 'The Strangers'). Any tips?

The Blair Witch Project
The Ring
The Grudge
The Conjuring
Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately I have already seen all of those.
Do you have tips on great horror movies in general?
- Dolly Dearest is a possessed doll movie like Annabelle, imo Dolly is a lot better and more evil
- The Haunting in Connecticut 2 I was actually impressed by this
- The Human Centipede, this is more of a slasher, it kept me on my toes not recommended if you have a weak stomach
- Forget Me Not is about a girl that was bully as a kid and was killed, her spirit is awaken 20 years later to take revenge on the bullies, also more of a slasher as oppose to a horror
I've just recently watched Rob Zombie's The Devil's Rejects (I know, I'm late) and I have to say, it probably has the coolest, most satisfying and appropriate ending to a horror film I have ever seen.
