I won't call the training she got from the best assassins in the GOT world a waste. There's even been some soul searching on her part after the trauma she experienced in Westeros. Y'all tend to forget she's just a kid, the time off from Westeros to reflect was much needed.
This was a transition time for her, she lost the Hound, she was all fear, she had to reconnect with the only thing that had been kind to her in that moment (you know when she was captive as "Arry" and surrounded by mudd, blood and torture) and this was Jaquen H'ghar. I think with this whole experience in Braavos she became a more determined, stronger focused person to go get what she wants, and I think that's what struck me when she went to grab Needle, there was determination, no hesitancy. She's still very young, figuring herself out, understanding who she is, everyone go through a period in their life where they look for mentors.
