JEIBERT'S Best of 2011 | A&MV: [#37-36] S: [#71-69] UPDATED!
OWL CITY - "All Things Bright and Beautiful"
Released: June 14, 2011
Genre: Hip hop, electro hop, dance-pop
Label: Universal Republic
Producers: Adam Young
Actually, I much more prefer this album than their first. There are much more memorable songs on this one! Too bad, it seems that “Fireflies” turned to be their only hit. The lead single “Alligator Sky” would’ve smashed more if B.o.B. was still used in the single version. I also preferred the progress of the songs which were much more “poppier” and “aggressive” compared to their last which were more “dreamy and mellow” Of course the track titles (which I adore) were very obvious for music like of Owl City’s.
Favorite Tracks: : "Dreams Don’t Turn to Dust", "Deer in the Headlights", "The Yacht Club", "Honey and the Bee", "Kamikazee", "Alligator Sky" (featuring Shawn Chrystopher)
SELENA GOMEZ & THE SCENE - "When the Sun Goes Down"
Released: June 28, 2011
Genre: Dance-pop, electropop, teen pop
Label: Hollywood
Producers: Rock Mafia, Devrim Karaoglu, Toby Gad, Emanuel Kiriakou, Dreamlab, Greg Kurstin, Stefan Abingdon, Josh Alexander, Billy Steinberg, Thomas Armato Sturges, Sandy Vee, Espionage
Okay now, every other album they always release is better than the previous one, which means this is their best to date. Oh wait! I mean Selena is clearly fronting this, leaving “The Scene” again at the background. All of the songs here in this album are all very catchy and the sound and production was much more upgraded compared to their previous album. I love all of the songs but “Whiplash” (originally intended for Britney Spears) is the highlight track for me. So far, I can see the album going through longevity because they’ve released the proper singles. Hopefully, more singles will be released from this album because there’s much more songs that are hit-screaming if give only proper promotion.
Favorite Tracks: : "Who Says", "Love You Like a Love Song", "Whiplash", "Hit the Lights", "My Dilemma", "Outlaw"

"...'Oohh don't it make your heart go wow
Oohh how I've turned this whole thing round, L.O.V.E, Dance to the beat of my drum, Dance to the beat of my drum, L.O.V.E, Dance to the beat of my drum, Dance to the beat of my drum..."
Probably the most original solo debut being a Girls Aloud member is this intriguing sound of a song! With fast paced vocal verses, and a chanting chorus, Nicola takes a song on an impressive couture of track poised to mark at the British sound. The Diplo assisted production is as polished as genius as Nicola cusses in and out astonishingly that embarked on my memory!! **Drumbeats**...One of the standouts debuts of the year!!!
"...Say what you mean, Tell me I'm right, And let the sun rain down on me, Give me a sign, I want to believe, Woah, Mona Lisa, You're guaranteed to run this town, Woah, Mona Lisa, I'd pay to see you frown..."

Just like the album, this being the first single instantly reminded me of the sound distinctively similar of the vibes of their debut album. It was everything that I expected from them to deliver and as a listener of their muisc, I was properly pleased of how it sounded. Seriously, this deserves a higher peak position on the charts! From its performance, "Mona Lisa" is now on the verge of frowning...
"...'Cause if you leave, baby then leave
Make up your mind before you shut the door, 'Cause if there's a chance we might've missed, And if there's a ray of light in this, Baby you should know that this is where my heart takes over, over, over..."

It's the second best ballad on the album! And definitely a gem that deserves to stand out, being one of their ballad releases as singles!. The lyrics are just so beautiful, it shows strength and hope in love, as well as understanding, and it's one of the songs I wanted to sing about just as a dedication. Sadly it missed the top 10 in the UK and deemed as their worst selling single ever, that doesn't take out that this song is beautifully composed.
