Nah imo it reads like a 4. They praised her as a vocalist, and they praised Million Reasons.

Eg.

Gaga is in none of the above however. It's quite the opposite, she's had time to gain much respect from the music industry since after ARTPOP. The Oscars performance, her Superbowel halftime announcement, the national anthem. There is no evidence of the media trying to bring her down.

It is possible and likely that Joanne is just not a good album.

They aren't "excuses" if you have actually read the reviews we are talking about tho, they are accurate descriptions.

Independent clearly talked about some of the tracks without drawing back to her past too much. NYT basically dissected more(even though that score is ridiculous)

AXS Review: Lady Gaga channels Sheryl Crow on new album 'Joanne'

It's been three years since Lady Gaga released her third full-length solo album ARTPOP and after a run with Tony Bennett in support of No. 1 album Cheek to Cheek, Gaga marks her return to pop music. Joanne (Oct. 21) is her fourth LP (fifth set overall) and as with any true artist, Gaga's sound evolves on the record that channels hints of Sheryl Crow and ditches her overproduced dance pop she became known for with her first two releases The Fame and The Fame Monster.

Joanne, inspired by her late aunt who passed 12 years before Gaga's birth, showcases her vocal talent over indie, rock, and western influences as heard in "Sinner's Prayer" or the speaker throttling aptly titled "John Wayne." Gaga's twisted the sound of ARTPOP's "Manicure" into a hand-clapping "A-YO," one of the energetic crowd engaging tracks on the new album.

Ending with the raw "Angel Down," the album is not the dancefloor anthems or heavy electronic songs from her past, it's Gaga embracing pushing herself outside of the box she's rooted herself. The set is led by single "Perfect Illusion" which debuted at No. 15 on the Hot 100 songs chart.

Are they REALLY odd and foreign? I mean you just came up with a few examples of artists who are unfairly reviewed. Another good example is Chris Brown. The domestic abuse issue is always brought up in an album review of his. It's just not right. I can't speak for anyone else other than myself, I don't feel she's above it, but I do think that it's unnecessary to not speak much about the music and give a career review.

Probably comes down simply to two different people reviewing the albums.

People still read their reviews? I just look at the score and move on. It's not like they talk about the music.

Finally a review that understands the album. The album is like a 7.5-8 for me.
