Ellie Goulding CAL Event performance
Admittedly, things got off to a shaky start. Choosing to open with two tracks from the new album, ‘Under Control’ followed by ‘All That Matters,’ was a bold move and though when the instruments were down the crowd cheered, the moment was minimal and to say dancing was taking place would definitely be an over exaggeration.
However, Ellie knows how to own the stage and captivate an audience. After a quick check on how everyone was doing and the first of many comments about the temperature of the venue ‘Animal’ from her first record saw the audience perk up considerably. By coyly murmuring, “I wonder who knows this next one...” and then launching into ‘Dreaming Again,' Ellie ensured the remaining wallflowers and seated guests were soon on their feet and singing along.
‘Bleeding In The Dark’ was the perfect way to drop the tempo without losing her audience and with them putty in her hands Ellie slowed things down for a while, confidently leading her band.
Her comfortable, lively stage manner set the tone perfectly for a relaxed and enjoyable evening. Being able to work the room seems fundamental to success at the CAL Event and Ellie’s simple tactic of leading by example with her own endless stage energy soon had the crowd onside.
