it's sad that the rock countdown is die again, it's the only countdown that really support good rock music
Well, looking at the "first" top 50, it looks like there are 13, maybe 14 songs that are not rock and the rest are various rock songs.
That being said, I'm seeing an overwhelming majority that want me to continue the Blokk, which leaves me in a bind.
Part of me still wants to do a top 50, but I've also thought about the possibility of keeping the Blokk alive. I've thought about doing the top 50 on an actual website while keeping the Blokk alive here. I did say that there just wasn't very much good new rock music out there, but I think the problem was that I wasn't willing to look harder to find that good new music. I've found plenty of songs recently that I could debut on the Blokk over the next couple of weeks.
The one thing? I'm thinking about adding more songs to the Blokk, though not that many more. At the most, I would add 10 more to make it an even 30, but I've also thought about making it a top 25 as well.
In other words, you guys may have just convinced me to keep the Blokk alive.
It's really looking like this week will be the last week that you see the Blokk in its current top 20 format. Even if I decide to not do the top 50 and focus on the Blokk, I think that that Blokk has outgrown its top 20 roots and is ready to move up to a top 25 or even top 30. I feel the need for change coming, and that's as good of a change as any.
But the artists and songs on the final top 20 of the Blokk don't really care that the countdown is expanding. No, all they care about is reaching #1, and everyone has been staring up at the destructive duo that is Korn and Skrillex for the last three weeks. But there are a couple of contenders lurking, particularly The Joy Formidable. Can TJF or the other contenders knock Korn and Skrillex out of the #1 spot, or will they all have to shut the **** up for another week?
I'd like to thank *deep breath* The Dragon's Brush, JGib's Republican Fibs, The Razzies, Ash Williams--Simpson Fan, Billie Holiday, 15 Minimum Doors, To the Back of the Line, Orfeo Crosses, HUSS! HUSS! and Tearing Us Sunder(land) for commenting, numbering, whatevering. And now I can breathe again.
Next week is shaping up to be one of the biggest in Blokk history, assuming I decide to keep the Blokk alive. The Blokk could be a top 25 or top 30 for the first time. Meanwhile, Korn and Skrillex will try to hold on at the top. Can The Joy Formidable or the other contenders bring them down? Will the Blokk even be here?
So, I've officially decided that the Blokk will be coming back, after quite a bit of thought on what to do. The only catch? No longer will the Blokk be limited to just twenty songs. Starting today, the Blokk is expanding to THIRTY songs. And what a better way to kick off the top 30 era than with Korn trying to hold on to #1 yet again? Can ANYONE stop Korn and their new friend Skrillex?
Also note that I'm likely going to be experimenting with new looks over the coming weeks to celebrate the latest change to the Blokk. Don't be too alarmed if the look that you see this week completely changes next week!
I'd like to thank Le Razz, Oreo Frosties, JGib's Cardinals Nest, Rock the Berbe, Joe's Bill Destroyers, Shooting Marnstar, E-Teru, Sunder the Sea ("Get Up" is just such a monster right now that nothing can hit #1, it seems like...I could see it breaking Muse's #1 record...maybe ) and Ricky Rubio for commenting, numbering, whatevering.
Next week, Korn and Skrillex look for week #6 at the top. Can Ladytron finally take the duo out? Could The Joy Formidable rebound to take the top spot? Will someone come out of nowhere to get to the top? Can I stop asking questions? I think I can, so I'll see you all next week!
