I said I liked MBDTF, but in terms of actual lyricism and content I just feels like it pales in comparison to CD, LR, and Graduation. I mean it's not a bad album by no means but to hear people on here talking about how it's his best album and ****... NO!
It's ok to rap about money and **** every now and then, but I want to connect to a rapper. I feel like their music should be an outlet to personal experiences, pain, struggle, etc. and in a way to tell a story. I'm not a broke bitch by no means, but I don't want to hear you constantly talk about what you have. Like ***** cudos for you, but you didn't always have that ****.
That's where you & me differ I could careless to connect to a rapper/singer. What I want is some damn good music that I can listen too. MBDTF imo is one of his best with his first three atleast imo. Yeezus is overrated though heavily

I mean I actually appreciate the production and the beats, but lyricism wins me over. I mean there's only so many ways you can talk about money, cars, clothes, and bitches before it starts sounding redundant.
And that's mainly pertaining to Rap/Hip-Hop and to an extent R&B.

MBDTF is grandiose and really just GRAND! It's a masterpiece as an overall project because he dared to do things others wouldn't with one complex album. It's an experience that we haven't seen done yet again, even if it's only been three years.
Some rappers rap about their issues for multiple albums in a row. That's MORE redundant than a rapper rapping about their $. How many times are you going to rap about the **** you went through as a child? Or the woman that left you?
An album about personal experiences doesn't automatically make the album better than one about cars and money, at all.

And there is only so many ways you can rap about your same ole childhood experiences that traumatized you. To the point were it get's redundant, it happens to every artist at some point due to being in the game for so long. Anyways I think it's how you approach the subject that keeps me interested

True! I prefer artists whose music is a reflection of where they are in life.
I honestly just feel like Jay-Z is at a point where he has nothing else to talk about. That's what I get from his music now. It comes off as so uninspired and contrived.

True, but how can you approach money, cars, and clothes differently?
when I say approach differently I mean in term's of production, vocals etc.... (not talking just hip hop)
Oh ok. See, it may be because of my age, because I used to be all into that type of music, but now I really sit down and listen to what an artist has to say and let it resonate with me. Excellent production can carry a song or actually make a song brilliant. It sets the mood and the overall tone, but, to me, if you're rapping about ******** then it's just a waste.
I listen to Rakim, KRS-One, Common, Mos Def, Slick Rick, and a lot of older rappers and then I try to listen to newer rappers and it does nothing for me.

He doesn't.
You could tell.
Jay doesn't write down his **** first. He raps what comes to his head in the studio and that's something you could tell a lot on MCHG. Especially on Holy Grail!

I see where your coming from but I like to listen to both old school/new school. Deep subjective matter all the way to shallow it is just balancing to me. rather than too much of one side

Which is basically what I'm saying. I can appreciate an album that has a good mixture of one, but when it's mainly just superficial subject matter then more than likely it'll lose me.
