I really don't think its the popular opinion though.
Alejandro was received with a mixed reaction because it followed 3 of Gagas Best made videos at the time.

If it was released before Paparazzi, it would have been praised & if it was released this era after TEOG, the same would have happened. The video is not bad in any aspect other than the unnecessary length. The cinematography is great, as is the choreo & overall feel. It was just released at the wrong time.
