But, I think you just need to slightly pander. Your best bet would've been to pick two songs from the 90s because those are songs that a lot of people know, OR you go directly for the song from previous decades that were huge back then and are well known now

Piano Man, New York State of Mind, Only the Good Die Young, We Didn't Start the Fire + the three I mentioned are probably his best known but We Didnt Start the Fire stuck out cause the song structure / lyrics are more unique.
And 90s songs are picked fairly regularly around here in the themes unrestricted by decades, I don't think its unfair to want something a little different. At the very least Say My Name, Genie in a Bottle, and BOMT stick out to me as songs that
technically fit the theme but don't really belong in a throwback set.
