So I just stumbled across this interview and it has seriously pissed me off. The New Yorker's John Seabrook wrote an article about songwriters-for-hire and was interviewed about it by Leonard Lopote here. The whole thing is rage-inducing but I transcribed the part about Taylor.

Lopote: So, inauthenticity is the standard today?

Seabrook: I don't know if they use it as a brand to admire but, certainly, the singer-songwriter is not really all that present on Top 40. Even with people like Taylor Swift, who everyone knows writes her songs, she gets a lot of help too. So, there are certain people who are marketed as singer-songwriters but that doesn't necessarily mean they write all their own songs. And Lady Gaga claims to write her own music too, but she gets help, from producers. So everyone, basically, gets help and some don't write their own songs at all.

Lopote: Since people like Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga seem to spend an awful lot of time having their hair done and doing all the other things, when do they even have time to write their songs?

Seabrook: Well, that's a good question. And that's why a lot of artists don't write their songs, is because they're touring all year and when do they have time? Exactly - they're making videos, they're doing make-up and they're performing.

Certainly with the lengthy songs and lack of editing, his theory can't be applied to Preach Now. Because if She really got a lot of help, it'd have been much less bloated than it is. Major flaw of this dude's theory. They write, but OF COURSE they have producers to help them. It's like 1 + 1 = 2, basic stuff.
