'Don't cry!': Demi Lovato taken aback by screaming, sobbing fans during appearance on Live With Kelly And Michael
She found fame early, first as a child actress then as a young recording artist.
And it appears Demi Lovato has retained her legion of fans as she enters adulthood.
The 20-year-old received a hero's welcome on Thursday during an appearance on Live With Kelly And Michael in New York City, as young girls sobbed and screamed hysterically during the broadcast.
Demi was so taken aback by the outpouring of love that she interrupted talk show host Kelly Ripa during the interview to shout out to the audience:
'There are so many tears, I just want to hug all of you,' she said. 'I'm sorry, don't cry.'
'We love you,' shouted sobbing fans, who call themselves 'Lovatics,' some of whom held up signs saying 'I love you Demi!'
Kelly credited the star for inspiring 'a generation of young girls' after Demi tweeted a picture of her makeup-free face last week and urged her fans on Twitter to do the same.
The X Factor judge then encouraged her followers to upload their naked faced photographs.
'Ladies, be brave today "take off your make-up and stop using those filters!! WE are beautiful!!!!' she tweeted.
The singer also spoke about signing on as a judge for another season of X Factor USA.
Kelly complimented her on her impressive judging abilities and her mature disposition.
'I've lived a lot of life at a young age and I've kind of seen the world from a different perspective. As a kid I always got along better with adults, and so being able to sit on a panel with other adults, i feel comfortable,' she said.
Demi also performed her new single Heart Attack off her album Unbroken, due out on May 14.
The star, who has struggled with mental illness and substance abuse, said during the interview that the songs reflect her life thus far.
'With the album I have a ton of upbeat songs [that are] super catchy that get stuck in your head, which is a good thing,' she said. 'But i also have some pretty emotional songs on there, opening up about things that I haven't ever really talked about. It's a big deal for me.'
The star, who was bullied at school, said she has recorded a song about bullying that she is yet to release.
'If you're not using your power for good, then you're wasting everyone's time,' she said.
Demi received an overwhelming response to her makeup-free photo last week, which did not go unnoticed by online bullies, who apparently gave some grief to a few of her female fans.
The singer advised her fans to not engage with the online detractors, saying: 'To all my Lovatics - if you come across haters, show them love.
'We don't bully back or retaliate. That's not what we are about!!'
