Hey everyone.
Since most of you had the same issues, I penned it here. Refer to this 'introduction' in case you are wondering about your score.
There was a wide misinterpretation of this round's theme. It was not a Dance (genre/type) round, it was a round about a song that makes you dance, and even Adele's 'Someone Like You' would have fit given that you are convincing in your essay.
Those who sent a Dance song was advantageous but unfortunately did not do it justice. Instead of stating why it makes you move, you went astray with weak points instead of focusing on the instrumentation or the way it moves you. Those who did not send the typical Dance song felt like it was not a round for them and this insecurity was apparent in their words - not to mention that they did not state strong points as well.
Like last round, this round is purely subjective in the sense that it was about a song that makes YOU dance. What makes you dance doesn't necessarily make me dance. Therefore, I paid more attention to your essay so that you could sell your entry to me, but most entries were disappointing to my dismay.
About the Be Original factor, I didn't let it affect my score. I haven't listened to a lot of albums in this bunch, therefore I wouldn't know which songs on their album was the predictable one. For that reason, I did not deduce points to the other predictable choices that I know of in order to be fair to everybody.
 | Capital B - Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill: Your House
Jagged Little Pill is filled with raw and powerful songs that move you, and they are a perfect combination of emotional and physical expression. Dancing is a form of art and we manifest our feelings through it - and you portrayed that perfectly in your essay. While describing the song, you brightly correlated it to what it means to you, and how it motivates you to dance. |
 | Dollas n Diamonds - Taylor Swift - 1989: Shake It Off
Highly unusual for Swift to release a song that makes you want to dance, and with her lead off 1989, its harmless and infectious beat fills you with an adrenaline rush that makes you want to fight the air with ridiculous moves. Your essay started perfectly with describing how the sounds activate different body movements, but got off track in the middle. |
 | VDK - Little Mix - Salute: Move
If Salute (single) was a recruit anthem to rule the world, Move is an order to get to your feet - and both are filled with the right amount of attitude and beat to make you obey their command. You wisely displayed how each part of the song triggers a different move by explaining the sound of the song and its lyrics.
|
 | Prismatic - Katy Perry - PRISM: Walking On Air
Perry's discography is filled with songs that uplifts you both morally and physically, and she transitions into a disco fever enthusiast with Walking On Air. Although a bit loose, your essay managed to explain how the song makes you feel good, and in the result makes you dance. |
 | holyground - Lorde - Pure Heroine: Biting Down
In the midst of gloomy atmosphere and themes, Biting Down contrast it with a pounding blast that make you tap along, or move a la Lorde. You explained the instrumentation of the song and how it penetrates right unto your bones - and it was reflected in your last line to which I fully agree with - but your essay went a bit astray by repeatedly excusing Lorde's lack of dance-y music. |
 | Bloomers - Baroness - Yellow & Green: Take My Bones Away
People normally don't associate this underrated genre to music that can uplift, but it's usually the most fitting one with their heavy sounds. The first half of your essay felt more like an excuse for not having a dance album or artist, but you managed to make the connection on the other half.
|
 | Penk - Kimbra - The Golden Echo: Miracle
90s Music was a hint of what to expect on Kimbra's second album, and Miracle swirls us back under the disco ball with a nostalgic composition that promises a session of Saturday night fever. You gave great characteristics of the song which lead to you moving your hips and feet, but other than that, too much details were given about the song's nature. |
 | MusicLoverDude - Carly Rae Jepsen - Kiss: Good Time (feat. Owl City)
From Call Me Maybe to Tonight I'm Getting Over You, Jepsen shows that she can get you on your feet. Good Time yet again follows another infectious rhythm. You mentioned which parts of the song makes you dance, but you did not state why it does. |
 | SailorMoon - Britney Spears - Oops!... I Did It Again: Stronger
The debut single off Oops!...I Did It Again made its way to an iconic choreography, and Stronger may set off a similar dance routine. Most of your essay was a description of the song and it was not enough to make a connection to why it makes you dance. |
 | Pedro - Shakira - Shakira.: You Don't Care About Me
Shakira is notorious for her infectious sounds that make you move, and I agree with what you said about her stripped down songs as well. Your essay mentioned that it makes you dance, but only few lines bore the reasons why. |
 | theREALslimSHADY - Coldplay - X&Y: The Hardest Part
A Sky Full of Stars showcases Coldplay's ability to make a full-on dance anthem, but swirling back to their old days, they made music to move us emotionally instead of physically. The Hardest Part however manage to blend both through its upbeat instrumentation. You mentioned that aspect of dancing through the pain which I agree with, but your depiction of the lyrics was an attempt to make of it a 'dance' song, which it wasn't. |
 | Xedretinz Lododnz - Maroon 5 - V: Sugar
The Famous 5 have been known for a while now creating radio-friendly beats that elevate you, and Sugar is no exception. There were a lot of repetition in your essay, and most of them did not translate to why the song makes you move. |
 | Already Gone - Sia - 1000 Forms of Fear: Burn The Pages
Sia makes the type of music that makes you dance to express your emotions, and Burn The Pages is an example of that. You took a general approach to the essay instead of a personal one and didn't write much about why the song makes you dance. |
 | prezli - Nelly Furtado - The Spirit Indestructible: Parking Lot
Reminiscent of M.I.A in both vocal tone and instrumentation, Parking Lot brings back the oldies beat and uses horns to make you hop along. You mentioned how the drums get to you and makes you feel the music, but the rest of your essay was
- a description of the song, which unfortunately was not associated to the fact that it makes you dance.
- what the song could have been.
|
 | Luigi - Janet Jackson - The Velvet Rope: Go Deep
Jackson has a wide catalog of dance tracks, but in an album like The Velvet Rope, Go Deep find its way to a sensual, yet upbeat scene. Your essay laid too much emphasis on the song's description, and although you gave a tiny tint that it makes you groove towards the end, the approach is too general than personal and fades in making a connection to the rest of the text. |
 | Yvess - Avril Lavigne - Under My Skin: Who Knows
In a dark and personal album, it's hard to find a track that moves you physically instead of emotionally, but Lavigne might have found the recipe for making you feel both when the verse explodes into an upbeat chorus. You described the meaning of the song, but unfortunately you didn't correlate it to how it makes you want to dance. The closest you got to it was the last line which was more of a statement based on the song's theme instead of an exemplification. |
 | Starships - Miley Cyrus - Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus: Let's Dance
This is a competition where you are trying to sell your album to us, and calling the song 'trash' is saying that the album contains a bad song. This round was not about sending a dance track, but sending any song that makes you dance and your essay would serve as a convincing explanation to that. By not giving any reasons in your essay, I cannot figure why or how it makes you move. |

And the highest score from me too. The only ten of mine this round, may I add. Capital B's approach was innovative and addressed the theme better and more completely than everyone else, in my opinion.

Thanks Element. I feel like you (and the majority of judges) got it. I interpreted this round as describing what makes you personally want to dance - and for me, given my dance background, songs that make me want to dance aren't necessarily a booming beat club hit.

Well....this round was a bit of ********. I'm sorry it's kind of hard to really describe why a dance song makes you dance....you just do.
I just think some of the overall scores were ********, no offense to any of the judges, but you can't expect much in descriptions as to why a song makes you dance.

I maintain the opinion that Capital B had the best essay. Most described the songs' sound as being 'dance' or 'upbeat', therefore it makes you move - whereas boyonce focused on the dancing process itself. It was a round about a song that makes you dance and the fact that you are dancing is more important than the song here.
The challenge made it clear
- it doesn't necessarily have to be a dance track.
- explain why it goes straight to your legs.
The most I got from the essays were a description of the song.

I disagree I understand how the essays matter each round but honestly, the song was more important than the essays, I felt.

Sometimes the songs weigh more, sometimes the essays. I explained how this round was subjective because it was about a song that makes YOU dance. Therefore, I had to rely on your essay to see how or why it does. If the essay lacked reasons, it drastically affected your score.

I tried to balance the essay with the song. I can talk about two different cases I still have in mind: while Capital's essay slayed, the song itself, didn't make me wanna move at all and even with contemporary dance in mind, I just couldn't imagine it. On the contrary, we have SailorMoon. The song slayed, eventhough I wasnt expecting Stronger, but the essay lacked substance.
You'll always have people who prefer the essay and others who prefer the song. The trick is to slay in both areas. I didn't save Starships this round because it'd be unfair to others but I did mention I liked his audacity.

Thanks Kavish - very glad you understood, thanks for your judging. Shame that one judge and 3 off votes from the public prevented me from a top 3 finish - but I'm still very happy with the essay I created this round.
Excited to see what next round brings! This game is so much fun. A bit dismayed to be outside of the top 3 on the overall chart for the first time, but seeing how close the point spread is between first and fourth lights a fire under me!

See, this is where you lose me a bit. You know I admire you and respect you (and this game!) but I didn't choose the song because it would make other people want to dance, I chose it because it makes ME want to dance - which I thought was the point of the round and I think I explained pretty well.
