I think its cause its been warm for like 10 straight days. Chinooks usually only last a few days. And with chinooks its warm all day and night, but its been warm in the afternoon and its falls off to like -5 to -9 at night.
They claim a heat wave is when the temperature is 5 degrees higher that the long-term average for 3 or more days. But the actual definition as per the government's agency Environment Canada is 3 or more days of 32C or higher.
