Flawless Top 5 albums but the #1 had me shocked
Mess at WTNY and SIO being paid dust

| #8 All You Had To Do Was Stay
"let me remind you, this was what you wanted, you ended it"
This is like the musical equivalent of a quickie (for the lack of a better analogy). It's short, sweet, packed full with everything good. It's pop perfection distilled so compactly into a 3 minute song. | | #7 I Know Places
"loose lips sink ships all the damn time, but not this time"
This used to be in my top 3 but flew down a whole lot. Initially I was afraid of this song coz after seeing what Ryan Tedder did to Welcome To New York my expectations plummeted. But thank god this is still flawless. It has a more pop rock vibe I guess, the urgency in the verses are so good. And then when the chorus explodes, this song is just pure heaven. | | #6 New Romantics
"the rumours, are terrible and cruel but honey most of them are true"
The BIGGEST grower on 1989. That sardonic verses sounded really boring and uninteresting at first. But I eventually grew to love it's cynical tone. But the best part of the song is that chorus. It's like a pandora's box filled with all things awesome got unleashed. I just want to pump my fists in the air to the chorus. Oh and that production, I don't know what feeling it is, but it's got that bloody amazing vibe. | | #5 Style
"he said what you heard was true but i, can't stop thinking 'bout you and i, i said i've been there two or few times"
First, this song was said to be a Miami Vice influenced track, then it was said that it could've been in the Drive soundtrack, then it became a DWUW/LMH "ripoff". Okay no, but the production is amazing. The bass pulses throughout and the electric guitars are perfect. The song is just so slick, smooth and intense and that bridge is everything. Though I must say I was slightly disappointed when I first heard the song, coz I wanted the last chorus to be longer. | | #4 Out of the Woods
"remember when you hit the brakes too soon, twenty stitches in a hospital room"
Just missing the top 3, sorry Bloomers. When I heard this, my faith in 1989 got restored 110%. This song screamed CHVRCHES and Taylor really steps into the indie genre this time. And the result is amazing, even though the chorus is really repetitive, they're well purposed. That bridge too, it just intensifies the song so much. I need Taylor to really delve into the indie pop genre more pleeeeeease. | | #3 Wildest Dreams
"you see me in hindsight, tangled up with you all night"
Yeah yeah so this song sounds like Lana Del Rey, but I love Lana so I really don't care. Besides, this sound really really suits her too. The song is dreamy and understated and perfect. And I really love the lyrics, how she plays with the duality of a relationship, how she is resigned to the fact that relationships will only end in burning flames. It's realistic, mature, and just flawless. | | #2 Blank Space
"got a long list of ex-lovers, they'll tell you i'm insane, coz you know i love the players, and you love the game"
There has never been a pop song more perfect than this. Seriously, the chorus is the catchiest thing ever. Literally everyone in the world loves this song? I'm not joking? The song is too unrelentingly catchy and addictive. Paired with a more minimalistic production, this is perfection. Oh and that self-aware, satirical lyrics, seriously this song is already perfect enough. | | #1 Clean
"ten months sober i must admit, just because you're clean don't mean you don't miss it"
Aaaaand my #1 song nearly put me in tears when I first listened to it. This is like, the perfect album closer. This song is just heartbreaking. It's about a relationship/relationship with media and how after some time when you let it go, you become clean of it. And she compares it to a drug addiction which really makes this so much more poignant. Ugghhh this just hurts my heart. Imogen's backing vocals hurts my heart too, just so good so good. They need to work more. I need more collaborations PLEASE! |

Switch Style for IKP and the top 6 will be flawless. Gosh, I love all these songs so much. Clean, Blank Space, OotW, New Romantics, Wildest Dreams, IKP. They are all so perfect.
Style and Stay are kinda overrated tho, especially the former. Both are as generic as New York production-wise.

I agree that it restored my faith in the album though.
Great ranking! That was a fun read! I would put How You Sound Like Becky G at the very bottom, but everything else is up for debate (except Out Of The Woods is clearly number 1 ) I forgive you though
All the album cuts are swell! This Is Not A Game is probably my favorite, but they're uniformly excellent, not that I would expect anything else!
