Despite being one of the longest review titles ever, this is something out of the norm for Box Office Buz, a concert blu-ray!
I grew up with 90’s pop and being entertained to such a level by artists of that era, I suppose I have become disillusioned with the music industry and the monotone nature of music that’s seeping out and injecting the masses with mediocrity. However there’s one woman who has continued to impress me with her releases and that’s Pink. This year she released an amazing video for her single ‘Try’, she continues to fight for good causes but above all, she sings live and not live in the stand at the mic because if she moves a touch she’ll miss a note, she puts on a spectacle that makes people happy to part with their money and in the latest tour DVD/Blu-ray entitled The Truth About Love Live in Melbourne, she ramps up the circus with acrobatics, pyrotechnics and the killer vocals.
The Truth About Love Tour, is an evolution of all the tour DVDs that have come before. With the rise in popularity the budgets have increased allowing Pink as an artist to put on bigger and better shows featuring acrobats, dancers and a whole host of apparatus to lift her up, spin her round and bounce her up and down.
Pink is a true performer and whether she’s on her feet or doing the splits 20 to 30 feet above the stage, she never misses a beat. The one place this blu-ray does miss a beat is in the continuity and editing. Concert releases are usually filmed over two to three nights so the best performances can be thrown into the mix when it comes to the final product.
Here the concert features audio that doesn’t match up with the video which made me seriously question The Truth About Love Tour as Pink has always been an artist I have known to sing live, but because she is so damn good at times it does appear she’s lip syncing badly even though she is giving it her all, the worst moment is when the tour opens our with Raise Your Glass, it really does seem like this concert is going to be a mimefest. Not just that, it’s very distracting to watch lips move and have the words come out a few microseconds later.
Not only this but in one section, Pink references her husband and we cut to him in the audience then later she refers to him not being there. Two moments but from separate nights… come on!
Apart from that though, the rest of the disc is damn near perfect. The image quality on this 1080p AVC transfer is superb. Vivid colours fill the screen drawing viewers in to get involved with the performance as Pink talks to the audience, signs autographs from the stage and basically gets involved with her fans making the experience an envious one. I wish I could have gone to this concert but the DVD/Blu-ray releases are still just as rewarding.
With a whole host of hits including my favourites “Give Me A Reason”, “Try”, “Raise Your Glass”, “Blow Me” and a few surprises such as medley from her debut album “Can’t Take Me Home” and an appearance from a Lauper classic. “Time After Time”.
The only thing I would like to see next time around is multi-angle shots, the ability to move around the stage, there is so much going on and the Dancers, Singers and the layout of the stage is something to behold, I always felt like I was missing something, Pink is amazing to watch, she’s hot, she’s on form but her dancers are hot to trot and they give just as much as the main attraction.
The Truth About Love Tour is exceptional, its everything I have come to expect from Pink as a performer and more. Constantly entertaining leaving the audience wanting more, a dazzling display of talent, when Pink takes a ****, the studios scoop it up and mould the next big manufactured thing out of it!
If I were to have an 'Almost Famous' summer then I would love it to be alongside Pink! (If you've not seen Almost Famous, HOP TO IT!)
