Oh my god. Everyone needs to shut up with this sort of logic. It's such a cop-out from any real criticism of this era.
There are LOTS of people with very diverse taste in music who don't love the Joanne era so far It has nothing to do with genre... it has everything to do with being bland and anonymous. Million Reasons could 100% be any Katy or Rihanna piano ballad (and Monsters would probably be dragging it).
If anything, I suspect the monsters who are going "you just DON'T UNDERSTAND! because it's NOT POP! YOU OBVIOUSLY WANT BOPS!" are the ones who listen to little beyond top 40 pop. Of course this sounds revolutionary if you don't listen to other music, even though going acoustic or even country is a pretty worn-out career move.
Like, I'm ****ing cackling at some Monsters in here. Usernames that basically scream RED_ONE_STAN97 and PutYourPawsUp4Ever, yet now they're claiming they always secretly wished Gaga lost this costume and did this kind of music?

There are a bunch of other tracks left so maybe you'll like them more?

MR is just kinda terrible, I'm a Dope stan but that was a true dirge.
PI is kinda her best lead single though.

I mean BM is hardly an experimental song but yes this is a good sentiment

If anything Gags is just trying to help bridge the gap between those "pop only gays" (not referring to Aciid, just the majority of her fan base) and other music genres while also making the kind of music she likes.

I'm loving 2016. So many people crying over Lemonade, ANTI, and Joanne being a **** you to their pop discography, but I'm loving it!

"We want 2010 Gaga." 2010 Gaga was literally a character that embodied the idea of fame, so the music was catchy but generic. It was purposefully flashy and shallow, like her costumes. Fame Monster Gaga got a bit darker, her performances started to make a point. Born This Way was her attempt to begin to use her fame as a platform for good and activism. Fame wasn't all bad - it gave her a new position to reach people. ArtPop was experimental, trying to create pop music that wasn't generic but actually art (not my favorite album, but I appreciated what she was trying to do). Cheek to Cheek was part of her reinvention, along with The Sound of Music tribute and AHS - show the world that Gaga wasn't just flash and glitter but an actual talented human being. And Joanne, it seems, is her more personal album, stripping away the character of Gaga to who she really is.
Guys, artists are allowed to reinvent themselves. You don't have to like it, but instead of complaining she should go back to a different place in her life and career, just relisten to the music she has made that you like. If you like The Fame, listen to that album all you want. But don't discredit her journey or tell her you don't want "Joanne" because you want another "Fame." She's past that character in her life.
And honestly, who cares if this flops? She has established other outlets for her creative energy that go beyond creating pop music. She'll be just fine. So let's chill with the negativity and let's all listen to the Gaga we prefer. I prefer this Gaga to the previous incarnations, but if you like a different Gaga, that's great.

I'm perfectly okay with people not liking this era musically so far,
but please don't say that we're pretending to like it. The other way
around too, don't say that someone is illiterate for not liking the music.
Just state your opinion and let it go. Thank you.

Perfect Illusion was definitely a bait-and-switch. I got so excited when Kevin Parker was working on this album, but then it was only one song, d.
Did you listen to Sinner's Prayer and A-Yo yet? They're not what you were hoping for, but they still sound promising.
At any rate, I'll continue to anticipate her eventual rock album, d. It's clearly the genre she's most naturally suited for... ah well.

It's not a meltdown, it's more disappointment than anything. It's just weird when a fave you've followed since the very beginning releases music you don't like for the first time and switches everything you thought she was in a punch.
Lemme just focus on PI for now and hope for more tracks I like.

Of course she can do wrong.
Bad Kids
Judas,
Everything on The Fame sans its singles and Summerboyg
90% of ARTPOP
It's just that... some people enjoy good music regardless of what genre it is, and some (like you H-I-M, I still remember our little convo about how you hate everything urban and hip-hop) dismiss songs if they're not the same exact **** the artist they latched onto's been doing since the moment they started stanning them.

It's really underappreciated and lowkey her best album, but no, no it was not.
