Taylor showing real leadership in the industry with that letter to Apple. Not sure how Apple can expect musicians to give them content for free for 3 months, when they are sitting on a cash pile of $178 Billion. 3 months is an entire Quarter and that is a long time to go without getting paid. Apple made $18 Billion profit in just a Quarter recently.

My timeline is full of artists who I have never heard of (because they are new and/or obscure or have small fanbases) thanking Taylor for that letter. Imagine if you were releasing an album next month, and during the intial release stage of an album, the first 3 months, you missed out on getting paid for streaming? And this is being done by the most profitable company in corporate history! How can that be right?

Apple will need to publicly respond because of the media debate that is now going to engulf this issue.

This is the industry leadership move that would get Taylor the Billboard Woman of the Year Award, if she didn't already get it last year. She will get so much industry acclaim for this move though.

Apple are not going to turn on her. She is very respectful in that letter. They make tons of money from her, so that will always be on their mind.

Now that Taylor has made a public statement on this, the media will pick up the story in a huge way. Various indie labels and smaller artists have also already publicly objected in various statements. However because they are smaller, they generate less headlines. Now Taylor has spoken, it will become a major story in the mainstream media and these other artists will be able to co-sign her stance and add their opinons. It is already happening.

I think there is a reason why Taylor wrote this open letter. And I think you guys can feel the totally different ways she responded to APPLE (with respect) and SPOTIFY (represents free-streaming). I'm here with her. I did NOT check it, but I assume some haters will mess up 3 months free trial and 3 months not paying artists. They will do this for some different reasons: Some have reading problems, some just hate. There are differences between APPLE and SPOTIFY, I think that's why she responded in different ways. Edit: I think APPLE's way is not perfect, if you want to be different from SPOTIFY, do it. Sometimes, it's good to be EXTREMELY different.

Edit2: As big as APPLE, if you want to become bigger, you must behave bigger. 2 ends: fans and artists, APPLE is definitely bigger enough to get them both. Free-trial for fans is a good thing, why not do something good for artists as well?

Edit3: APPLE is definitely capable and big enough to defeat SPOTIFY (not just compete), to do so, you must try hard to win fans, it's always hard to compete against FREE, because lower than ZERO is negative.

Edit4: On the other hand, it's much easier to win the OTHER end: artists, it's THAT simple.
