Blame stupid Lil Wayne and his atrocious Lollipop song. I guarantee you if it weren't for that trash, Madonna would easily be top 5 on the hot 100 again. As much as I hate 4 Minutes, she should be a #1 contender instead of being stuck at #7.

Madonna is falling because of lack of airplay, "4 Minutes" has been at number one on iTunes for the past couple of weeks. Payola is the key to everything, that's all she needs to do... like Usher, Mariah and others already do.

Sales have been a component of the Hot 100 since day 1.
Starting the last coupla weeks, Japan has gotten their own Hot 100. This is more reflective I think with radio being included.
Radio does not show what the public likes and actually takes money out of their pocket to buy a song, it shows what radio programmers choose to play. At least downloads should count alot more than Airplay.

Not necessarily. Yes I am aware of payola, but airplay reflects the most popular songs and requests. Without it, HSM would have been the #01 song in the country undeservedly.

No, if thats what the majority of the people are buying, they deserve #1, and not all airplay effects sales, yes airplay promotes sales but its a stretch to say that radio is the main source for that becuase thats far from the truth, yes radio could be included in the formula but not nearly counting as much as sales.

ehh, I didn't go as far as to say that airplay should count as much as sales, but when we have HSM songs being #01 when in reality, 90% of America doesn't care about that song, then it's not very reflective. There's a reason that HSM is not played on the radio. It's all about opinion so we can argue about this for days, but I see all POV's.
