I guess this is the coping mechanisms of those that don't make great money on their own.

So yes, even still they are to blame. For being so supportive of crap that it's literally forcing other genre's to conform to the same crap in order to make profit (considering they are the only ones that actually purchase and garner major revenue). Hence the current state of rap, hip hop and R&B. Because the artists/labels are too busy trying to sought out hits...therefore they have to make music that is more appealing to what the masses are liking...which is garbage.
