Animal Crossing is universal, that game is absurdly addictive and a total must-have along with Mario Kart 7, A Link Between Worlds, and Super Mario 3D Land.
I'm pretty sure my favourite 3DS game is still Kid Icarus: Uprising, I've sunk ridiculous amounts of hours into that and it never gets old imo but it's not necessarily for everyone.
Pokemon-wise if you don't have Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire then I'd recommend either/both over Sun and Moon. I haven't played Sun and Moon but they're pretty atypical Pokemon games while ORAS are my all-time favourites in the series and are relatively easy so they're good for new players.
Edit: I think most of the games I listed here are for everyone, but there are some outstanding games if you want to get into more "serious" areas. New Super Mario Bros. 2 is also worth a mention bcos Mario.

Alright, I already figured on getting Mario Kart 7, New Super Mario Bros. 2, and Super Mario 3D Land, so I'll have to check out A Link Between Worlds and Animal Crossing as I've never played any of them.
Thanks for that advice on Pokemon, my friends keep RAVING about Sun and Moon and I don't understand the hype.

Game wise, the 3DS is incredible. Since you like action/horror stuff, be sure to pick up Resident Evil: Revelations (if you haven't played one of the later console ports). As for Pokémon, Moon is the version I prefer, but you can't go wrong with either, and quality wise they're far superior to ORAS and XY, in my opinion.
In terms of first party games, Super Mario 3D Land is amazing, as are the N64 Zelda ports (OOT and MM), and A Link Between Worlds is one of the best 2D Zelda games. If you're into strategy games at all, look into the Fire Emblem series. Awakening is pretty cheap, and if you end up liking it, two new entries came out late last year.

I was hoping SE would release Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 3 for 3DS, but I guess having DQVII/VIII is enough

Xenoblade Chronicles 3D. And I love Hyrule Warriors Legends (there's SO much content) but if you don't like hack-and-slash games, you might not. If you want something cheap to download, Box Boy slays.

Speaking of Square Enix I've had Kingdom Hearts 3D for four years now and still haven't touched it.

I'm waiting to exhaust my current Wii U library but I'm lowkey excited to buy Hyrule Warriors. It looks cute but I never wanted to pay full price for it.

Do you plan on getting it for Wii U or 3DS? The 3DS version obviously is a downgrade graphically, but it has most of the DLC content included and is cheaper. I also think the game is perfect for handheld; I usually can play one campaign per bus ride!

Don't get ORAS They are the one of the weakest games in the entire franchise and a terrible downgrade from the gen 3 counterpart. Sun and Moon are flawless and the best games in years. X and Y were cute and are definitely worth a pick up before ORAS. Super Mystery Dungeon is also a decent spin off
Fire Emblem is also a good choice. Awakening is the better game and doesn't force you to buy the game three times like Fates does. It also has a better story and more likeable characters imo.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3D is still the best RPG of all time
And the standards like Animal Crossing, Mario Kart 7, Zelda: Link Between Worlds etc. are must haves for every 3DS owner
Some more unusual recommendations that I enjoyed were the Hatsune Miku games (the best Rhythem games on the 3DS, full of catchy J-Pop) and the Etrian Oddysey series (first person grid based dungeon crawling RPG). Although these are more obscure so you'd probably have to buy these online since your local store isn't likely to be carrying them.
Be sure to save some coins for Pikmin 3DS tho when it comes out cause we all need to support this game

Sis, skip Pokemon for Yokai Watch. Yokai Watch has better gameplay, stronger stories, more side content, more endgame content, better humor and the puzzles are better. Pokemon just has better character designs and more individual customization.

I'm playing Wind Waker HD and it's phenomenal, you'll love it. I'm not as enthralled by it this time because I played like 25 hours of it three years ago so the initial amazement isn't there but if I had completed it back then then I would have loved the entire thing.
That being said if you're not the type to worry about 100%ing then don't, it's too much. I have like 16 pieces of heart I'm not gonna bother getting so I'm not ****ing around with Tingle or delivery quests or anything. It makes it more enjoyable when you aren't running around the map. Also map sure you get the swift sail as soon as you can (e.g. the first time you hit Windfall) or it's a misery.
Speaking of Bayonetta I've sunk about 6 hours in and I adore it but I've been in a Zelda mood so I switched off it for a while. I'm thinking Twilight Princess HD after WW then I'll probably go for Bayonetta.
|
Twilight Princess was incredible on the Wii. I like that the weapons actually change the gameplay, even if just for a dungeon.
I definitely won't 100% it. I only become a completionist if I'm really invested in the world. If this was ALTTP or Link's Awakening, I'd probably do it.
Thanks for the tip. I'll probably go: Pikmin 3 > Wind Waker HD > Bayonetta > Bayonetta 2 > Pokemon Moon > Yooka-Laylee

The difference is talent WON. TRPGs are the bane of my existence and Square needs to focus on the Mana series, instead.

Wii U, I would love to have it on 3DS but the graphics look borderline gorgeous on Wii U and I don't have a New 3DS so I heard it's practically unplayable on my system which is a huge turn off.
Hyrule Warriors sold a million globally so I'm hoping it gets a Selects release but that seems unlikely. I really want Majora's Mask 3D to be rereleased as a selects soon because I can't afford RRP for it and I'm subject to highly impulsive purchases.

Surely you could find a cheap preowned Majoras Mask somewhere. I just looked up eBay and most of them are selling for around £25. And they don't have the disgusting butchered cover that all the other Nintendo Selects have

Definitely can't judge you if you wanna get Wii U Hyrule Warriors over 3DS. Though it's definitely playable on older 3DS's, it has a bad frame rate and obviously way inferior quality. The trade off is that it has 10000x more content than the Wii U version. It has way more adventure maps than the Wii U version (and adventure maps are huge), this cute fairy feature, ability to switch characters in battle, etc. Along with having ALL the DLC that the Wii U version got on it for free. Even some WIi U characters suffer from being... useless. They may be fun to play but they have absolutely nothing to collect so there's no point to picking them other than fun (Twili Midna who is my personal fave, Tingle, Young Link and probably more I'm forgetting). On the 3DS they have actual objectives so there's a reason to pick them. Finally, the 3DS has its own DLC that the Wii U doesn't have barring the characters who will also be essentially useless.
But at the end of the day, the fact remains that the Wii U version is WAY superior graphically and has a way more stable frame rate (compared to old 3ds). It also has all the monsters on the screen at once as opposed to way fewer monsters that keep spawning when you kill them. So there's really no wrong choice; it's between FAR superior graphics and gameplay, or MUCH, MUCH, more content at the cost of worse gameplay and far worse graphics.

Yeah I don't actually like Nintendo Selects cases but they're cheap af so I'm on board. I could but for the sake of saving £9 (maybe less after postage) I'd rather just buy it brand new on Amazon since I get Prime too.
It's always astounded me how well Nintendo products keep their worth over time, I bought the first three Professor Layton games secondhand in 2011/2 and they were all around £20 each despite the first being nearly 4 years old. Nintendo saving their contributions to the economy by never lowering their game prices until it Selects or discontinues.

The Wii U version is better. The 3DS may have more but it's not as if the Wii U version is lacking in content either. There's still a rediculous amount to do if you have all the DLC

Wow I didn't realise the 3DS version had such a leg-up in terms of content, it's a licensed Nintendo game so I always just assumed the DLC would consist of a few characters for extortionate prices. Maybe I won't totally write it off then, especially since I'm still considering getting a New 3DS XL as a back-up in case my 3DS XL bites the dust one day.
